Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was thankfully behaving, so it was fairly warm outside as everything was set up for the picnic. Tables and chairs had been set up, and there was plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and another listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP, HAVE AT IT. This is part one of the picnic, for specifically meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. *g*]

"You don't know about cable television?" Barney was shocked. He'd never really talked about such things with other people in Fandom.

Glitch looked confused. "A what? Is it anything like a A T.D.E.S.P.H.T.L.?"

"Are you just saying random letters for a reason?" Barney asked, wondering what was wrong with this guy.

"No." He looked a little offended that Barney didn't recognize it. "It's a Tri-Dimensional Energy Stored Projected Holographic Time Loop." Pause for effect. "I invented it."

"A what? Is it valuable?" Barney asked, trying to find something interesting about the strange-sounding item if Glitch was so proud to have invented it.

He smiled. "It's a Tri-Dimensional Energy Stored Projected Holographic Time Loop." He said it slowly this time.

"It will display a three dimensional representation of crystal recorded events on an endless loop until interrupted. Really, a very nifty thing to have."

"Sounds pretty sweet," he said. Barney wasn't sure he understood what Glitch was talking about, but he did understand that nifty things and people who could make them were often useful.

"Maybe you could show me this Tri-Dimensional thingy sometime."

Finally, some appreciation!

"I don't know that that there are any on this side. Do you, uhm, know of any way I could send for one?" Glitch still had no idea how things worked here, but was open to suggestion.

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Send for things from home?" he asked, curious that Glitch hadn't heard of the post office. "Like, through the mail, maybe?"

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes! Mail!" His tone suggested that it was miraculous breakthrough. "But would it reach the O.Z.? I mean, here seems magic, which would make it easier, in theory, to communicate with the Outer Zone. Then again, DG and Ahamo didn't mention anything about the Other Side being magical enough for that unless you were a Slipper."

Glitch still didn't get that people here didn't know what he was talking about most of the time for a reason.

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Barney stared while Glitch spoke, really not following along after the first sentence. "Right, I'm sure the O.Z. isn't out of reach for the mail here in the land of portals and pirates."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
While a few synapses filed away 'Mail to the O.Z.' for later consideration, he looked at Barney with an eyebrow raised.

"What's a pirate?"

"Barbossa," he replied. "He's the gay pirate who runs the radio station. Some have eyepatches and say 'Aargh!' a lot. I'd avoid them, if I were you. Though you do have a zipper on your head."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
He blinked, then tried to find an Ozian reference point for 'pirates.' Taking the fact that Barney suggest avoidance, and he really didn't care for the tiny little bastards in the East, Glitch now had a mental image for 'pirate.'

Painted, angry, and with one eye. He nodded, and felt that these pirates would be pretty easy to avoid.

"Do pirates not like zippers?" He couldn't see what it had to do with anything, but maybe the zipper was finally an advantage instead of a weak point.

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, they're more the brass button type," Barney offered. "Very lacking in any sort of fashion sense. Miss Bell would probably explode in a fit of tiny anger if she saw the things they wear."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Glitch added a satchel of brass buttons to the image of a 'pirate' in his head.

He was about to ask who Miss Bell was when a synapse suggested that, maybe, he was being rude, or annoying, with is questions.

"Sorry about the questions."

He gestured around himself, at the island, and continued, "I'm not exactly familiar with, uhm, here." He had forgotten the name of where here was, but it would show back up eventually.

"They say Fandom takes time. I say it just takes enough scotch," Barney told him.

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Scotch sounded familiar. Ahamo had said something about preferring it to Ozian wine.

"Liquor, right?" He smiled. Yes, liquor would probably be helpful at times.

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yes, liquor!" Barney said, shocked. "There's a bar in town. If you ignore the children and it's almost a pleasant place."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"They let children in a bar?"

He was, of course, thinking of small wee children running about with pitchers of ale. To say he looked shocked at the idea was probably an understatement.

"That doesn't exactly seem appropriate."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Who likes appropriate?" Barney asked. "While it's annoying at times, they're not usually too horrific if you threaten them. Detention works pretty well on the studious types."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh!" Glitch smiled. "You mean students." He looked a little relieved.

"I thought you had meant, well," he made a gesture he thought might indicate 'short' or 'little,' "children. Small ones."

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] suit-of-awesome.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, if you think of them as children, it's not as difficult to not sleep with the hot ones of a certain age," Barney told him.

Re: Meet Your Teachers (Spring 2008)

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Glitch stared ahead.

"Sleep with?"

Synapses were flailing around, aghast, at the suggestion. His face took on a horrified look, and it was an Ambrose-ish voice, finally, that said "You sleep with them?"

That was not proper. At all. Ever.

"You know, grease the wheel, do the horizontal tango, play tiddlywinks!" Barney could go one with euphemisms for days. "But never with students. The Dean wouldn't like that."
