Sam had gotten earwormed with Christmas music on his way to the library, and he was still humming as he opened the place up and got settled at the front desk.

"That sounds fair," Sam said. "Have I told you how much I appreciate you bringing me coffee and food every week? Because I do."

"Nah, go on," Peter said, grinning.

"You make my whole afternoon brighter and easier to deal with?" he added. "And you're good company."

"Nice," Peter said, appreciatively. "For that you can get a donut."

"Thank you," Sam said, taking his reward. "I'll have to practice to make sure my sucking up skills stay in shape."

"Would this be a good time to ask what you're getting me for Christmas?" Peter asked, adding in puppy eyes just in case that would help.

"You can ask, but I'm not telling you," Sam replied. "There's still a whole 15 days until Christmas!"

Peter heaved a woeful sigh.

"You're worse than Dean, I swear." Sam snickered. "I can tell you it's something I think you'll like."

"I'd hope so," Peter said with a grin. "Otherwise it's a waste of money for you."

"Good point," Sam said. "Are you going to tell me what you got me for Christmas?"

"Empty box," Peter replied. "I hope you don't have one already."

"That would be a good present for Scout. He's very easily amused by boxes and cardboard," Sam replied.

"Kinda like his dad," Peter teased. "Only in your case it's paper."

"Hey, there has to be something on the paper for me to be interested," Sam replied.

"Didn't know you had standards now," Peter teased.

"I'd say my standards are pretty low, all things considered."

"I feel like there's a Nathan and Dean joke in there somewhere but it's just not coming to me," Peter admitted.

"There's definitely a mean Dean joke in there, but I don't know about Nathan," Sam said.

"Maybe it all depends on what he gets me," Peter replied.

"Does he get you useful things?" Sam asked. "Or gifts that he thinks you need, but you really don't?"

"Combination usually," Peter said. "Books he thinks I should read, movies we both like, something cool and unexpected but really right."

"That sounds like Dean. I can always count on him to get me something I need, but don't necessarily want, and follow it up with something I want."

"He ever get you Art of War with his own notes written in the margins?" Peter asked.

"I was thinking more along the line of weapons as far as Dean is concerned," Sam said. "Nathan really wrote you his own notes?"
