Sam had gotten earwormed with Christmas music on his way to the library, and he was still humming as he opened the place up and got settled at the front desk.

"I'd say my standards are pretty low, all things considered."

"I feel like there's a Nathan and Dean joke in there somewhere but it's just not coming to me," Peter admitted.

"There's definitely a mean Dean joke in there, but I don't know about Nathan," Sam said.

"Maybe it all depends on what he gets me," Peter replied.

"Does he get you useful things?" Sam asked. "Or gifts that he thinks you need, but you really don't?"

"Combination usually," Peter said. "Books he thinks I should read, movies we both like, something cool and unexpected but really right."

"That sounds like Dean. I can always count on him to get me something I need, but don't necessarily want, and follow it up with something I want."

"He ever get you Art of War with his own notes written in the margins?" Peter asked.

"I was thinking more along the line of weapons as far as Dean is concerned," Sam said. "Nathan really wrote you his own notes?"

"You've met my brother," Peter reminded him, by way of an answer.

"Now I wish Dean would do something like that for me. That would require him to read though."

"Are we sure that we weren't switched at birth?" Peter asked ~~and spawned a thousand plot bunnies~~

"That depends. Do you have a secret penchant for guns that you haven't told me about before?" Sam asked ~~thinking it might be fun to be a Petrelli~~

"Define 'penchant'," Peter asked ~~thinking much the same thing~~

"You have a desire to go out and fight evil by shooting at it?" Sam replied.

"I would if that's what it took," Peter said. "'course these days I don't need to wait to grab the gun."

"Maybe we were switched at birth," Sam said. "I wonder if we should tell my dad."

"Imagine Ma's look of surprise," Peter said.

"Does that mean she'd start in on my hair?" Sam asked. "Because that might be a reason to keep things as they are."

"Coward."

"When it comes to your mother? You bet I am."

"She's a sweetheart!" Peter said. "Besides, she likes you."

"I know," Sam said. "But I get the feeling that puts me on a very short list."

"She's protective of her son," Peter said with a shrug. "Can't be helped."

"I can only agree with that because I know what my dad's like," Sam said. "I'm glad I'm on the nice list though."
