Library [11/12]

Sam had enjoyed being at John and Aeryn's wedding over the weekend, but now that he was back and in school mode, he was thinking about his vision again, and what it might have meant. Luckily, he just so happened to have a whole library of books at his disposal today.

Sam was taking a break, to check his e-mail, and to be available to greet anyone who might come in during this period.

Oh look, Peter just so happened to come in during this period. He also happened to come in with two coffee cups and a small paper bag. He made a beeline for the counter so he could see Sam. "Hey."

"Hey," Sam said, as happy to see Peter as always. "Is one of those for me," he asked, pointing to the cups, "or are you doubling up on caffeine today?"

Peter passed Sam one hazelnut coffee. "One of these is for you. We'll see if you get any of the donuts though."

"What if I look really hungry?" Sam said, doing just that. He'd already had lunch, but that didn't mean there wasn't room for a donut.

"Very nice," Peter said. "I believe your motivation. You're really selling it in the eyes. But no."

"Why do you hate me enough to bring donuts in here to taunt me?" Sam asked.

Peter couldn't help it. He laughed, too amused by Sam to pretend otherwise. "I'm not taunting. I'm here to see if you kept up your part of the deal."

"I'm sure I did. Remind me again what my part of the deal was?" Sam said.

"To take good care of yourself after your vision?" Peter prompted.

"Oh," Sam said, getting more serious. "Yeah, I did. I went straight to Dean, and he gave me some painkillers and got me calmed down more."

"Feeling better?" Peter asked.

"Yeah. I haven't had another vision yet, so..." Sam trailed off, shrugging.

Ronan staggered in, looking approximately like death warmed over. Or possibly just death. Since he'd left his room this morning, he'd started coughing a bit, and there were the beginnings of a rash down his arm. Seeing Peter, though, he smiled, focusing through the headache, and waved. "Hey," he said. Then coughed.

Peter blinked with surprise when he saw Ronan. Then he looked worried. "Hey. Are you okay?"

"What?" Cough. "Yeah, I'm... fine. Really." He shrugged. "How're you?" Followed by another coughing fit.

"Not currently losing a lung," Peter said. Not that he could. At least he was pretty sure he couldn't. "Sure you don't need any water or anything?"

Getting the coughs under controls, Ronan nodded a bit. "Maybe a little?" he said. "I, uh... Y'know, you saved my life." Coherency? Logical progression? Who needs those?

"It's just water, but you're welcome," Peter said. He decided to see if he could try steering Ronan over to a chair.

"When I was away. Your powers. They saved me." Which was probably even more confusing and less coherent. Also, it said something about how bad he was ~~resolutely not~~ feeling that he let himself be steered to that chair, although he did resist a little actually sitting down in it.

Well now Peter was curious. "You were able to copy my powers?"

He may have also been trying to subtly check Ronan's visual symptoms as long as they were talking.

"The idea, the chameleon, it-" Ronan's explanation was interrupted by another coughing fit; this time, it was so intense that he doubled over, unconsciously leaning against Peter for support.

The rash was spreading down Ronan's arms, if Peter thought to pull up his sleeves a bit to check.

"Okay, maybe we're going to stop talking for right now," Peter said. He was happy to let Ronan lean on him. Both because he liked offering support, and because it let him do a better symptom check. "How long have you had a fever?"

"Wha-?" Ronan's eyes were going a bit glassy as his fever spiked, and his legs were becoming increasingly unsteady and unable to support him. "No- no fever-"

Peter put the inside of his wrist against Ronan's forehead. "You're burning up. And you really need to sit."
