Combined Mathematics #1 [Friday 9-7, Period 4]

When the math students entered the classroom for the first time, they would find their teacher pacing a path in front of the chalkboard. The more observant among them might notice that his feet were not quite touching the floor. Those who were paying particular attention would notice that he also seemed to be vibrating ever so slightly.

“Good morning,” he said when the last student signed in and he stopped pacing. Even the nonobservant-and-falling-asleep should notice he had a bit of an accent. “I am Jean-Paul Beaubier—you may call me Mr. Beaubier, or Professor Beaubier if you prefer--and I will be teaching you math.” The ‘God help us all,’ went unvocalized. "First, we will all introduce ourselves so I know who I am dealing with, and then, you will have half an hour to complete placement tests so I know what I am dealing with. Let's get started. First, I would like each of you to tell me your name, what year you are in, and where you are from. Starting with...you," he said, pointing to someone at random.

Ami watched the teacher pace, an eyebrow rising as she noted the lack of ground-contact.

Rodney entered the classroom and looked around to see if Charlie was there yet and if he could sit next to her.

"I'm Alphonse Elric," he began. "I'm a junior this year, and from a small town called Risembool. Which is in another world entirely, so if you've never heard about it before that might be why." He paused, thinking if there was anything else to add before finishing. "And... I think that might be it."

"Hi!" Wow, the teacher was cute. That never hurt. "I'm Charlie McGee, I'm a junior, and I'm from Hastings Glen, New York. Math isn't exactly my strongest subject, but I don't hate it. And I've only been here since the beginning of this summer."

The last time, hopefully, that Adah would have to do this in a classroom, but by the end of the week, there was no hesitation or nervousness behind her taking out a sheet of paper, writing down her answer, and then raising her hand so that she might give it to the teacher.

"I'm Peter Parker from New York City and I'm a senior but only in the school year sense," Peter said.

Jude slouched down in his chair as soon as he heard the word 'math'. Dude. Not cool. When did that happen?

"'m Jude Lizowski, I'm a junior, and I'm from Toronto. Also, sir, you're, um, floating." He was being helpful!

"I'm Ronan Nolan," Ronan said, "and I'm a... junior." He hesitated over the still somewhat unfamiliar class terminology. "I'm from Ireland."

Bart smiled brightly, waving at his floating teacher. "I'm Bart Allen and I'm from Central City and I'm a freshmen. Do we learn to do that too in this class?"

The blur hadn't been expected, but given the history of teachers over time at Fandom, it couldn't have come as much of a surprise. Some other odd ability, Alphonse supposed, but there was no use mulling over it when there was a test to be done. He flipped through some of the pages before actually beginning; it all looked easy enough, nothing too complicated. Determined to finish it on time, Alphonse got straight to work.

Charlie blinked, not sure if she saw what she'd thought she'd seen, then applied herself to the test. She felt pretty confident about everything up to the Algebra, where she became nervous on the more advanced questions. The Trigonometry stumped her completely, since she hadn't had it before. She finished the first packet with ten minutes to spare, checked her work, and handed it in.

[Charlie did reasonably well, but she's no math genius. She needs to get through Algebra II again, and learn Trig, but she's fine with Geometry and basic Algebra.]

Adah had no problem at all finishing the first packet halfway through the allotted time, raising her hand to receive a second one. Harder one. She shifted excitedly in her seat as she began to breeze through that one, as well. She felt these were almost easier, because she enjoyed their complexity more.

Peter had been hoping for a good math class and here it was!

The first packet was a breeze, giving Peter plenty of time to work on the second packet. He stumbled through a couple of the more complicated integrals just because he was fairly out of practice with math due to his time in Fandom, but all in all he was happy when he finished right before the half hour was over.

[OOC: Peter did very well but his rustiness was probably showing towards the end.]

Bah-link.

Jude shook his head a little and looked down at the packet. Numbers swam before his eyes. Oh this was going to be fun. If by 'fun' you mean 'painful'. Which, y'know, you might. If you were that way inclined.

[[So not doing well.]]
