When the math students entered the classroom for the first time, they would find their teacher pacing a path in front of the chalkboard. The more observant among them might notice that his feet were not quite touching the floor. Those who were paying particular attention would notice that he also seemed to be vibrating ever so slightly.

“Good morning,” he said when the last student signed in and he stopped pacing. Even the nonobservant-and-falling-asleep should notice he had a bit of an accent. “I am Jean-Paul Beaubier—you may call me Mr. Beaubier, or Professor Beaubier if you prefer--and I will be teaching you math.” The ‘God help us all,’ went unvocalized. "First, we will all introduce ourselves so I know who I am dealing with, and then, you will have half an hour to complete placement tests so I know what I am dealing with. Let's get started. First, I would like each of you to tell me your name, what year you are in, and where you are from. Starting with...you," he said, pointing to someone at random.

Bart was too distracted by the teacher moving at a speed he could get used to to take the test.

Then he quickly wrote out as many answers as possible. And was kinda impressed the paper didn't catch fire this time.

[Better on the more difficult than the easier, no work shown, random doodles of a squirrel instead. No mad math skillz here, just being from the future and a hyperactive brain]

Bart's rapid progress caught Jean-Paul's eye. Well, that had been unexpected. Maybe this one didn't have a crazy twin. "Mr. Allen," he said after time was up, "I see we're going to have to work on your pacing."

Bart was pretty sure he didn't have a crazy twin. ~~But there was always that crazy and murderous clone of his.~~

"I was pacing!"

Jean-Paul raised one eyebrow doubtfully. "If you had been pacing, you wouldn't have risked setting your paper on fire."

"But I didn't!" Bart protested. Of course, there was that unspoken 'this time'.

"Nonetheless, I will ask you to either keep to a standard human pace in my class--and believe me, I understand how tiresome it can be--or at least attempt to use more than a few seconds of the time allotted to you. Haste makes for sloppy work, even for such as us."

Normal human pace! Bart flopped back in his seat, but didn't comment. Even if it was totally unfair.

Which it was.

So very.

Jean-Paul refused to show any sympathy. It would be good for the boy. Boring as hell, he knew, but good for him.
