Combined Mathematics #1 [Friday 9-7, Period 4]

When the math students entered the classroom for the first time, they would find their teacher pacing a path in front of the chalkboard. The more observant among them might notice that his feet were not quite touching the floor. Those who were paying particular attention would notice that he also seemed to be vibrating ever so slightly.

“Good morning,” he said when the last student signed in and he stopped pacing. Even the nonobservant-and-falling-asleep should notice he had a bit of an accent. “I am Jean-Paul Beaubier—you may call me Mr. Beaubier, or Professor Beaubier if you prefer--and I will be teaching you math.” The ‘God help us all,’ went unvocalized. "First, we will all introduce ourselves so I know who I am dealing with, and then, you will have half an hour to complete placement tests so I know what I am dealing with. Let's get started. First, I would like each of you to tell me your name, what year you are in, and where you are from. Starting with...you," he said, pointing to someone at random.

The blur hadn't been expected, but given the history of teachers over time at Fandom, it couldn't have come as much of a surprise. Some other odd ability, Alphonse supposed, but there was no use mulling over it when there was a test to be done. He flipped through some of the pages before actually beginning; it all looked easy enough, nothing too complicated. Determined to finish it on time, Alphonse got straight to work.

Charlie blinked, not sure if she saw what she'd thought she'd seen, then applied herself to the test. She felt pretty confident about everything up to the Algebra, where she became nervous on the more advanced questions. The Trigonometry stumped her completely, since she hadn't had it before. She finished the first packet with ten minutes to spare, checked her work, and handed it in.

[Charlie did reasonably well, but she's no math genius. She needs to get through Algebra II again, and learn Trig, but she's fine with Geometry and basic Algebra.]

Adah had no problem at all finishing the first packet halfway through the allotted time, raising her hand to receive a second one. Harder one. She shifted excitedly in her seat as she began to breeze through that one, as well. She felt these were almost easier, because she enjoyed their complexity more.

Peter had been hoping for a good math class and here it was!

The first packet was a breeze, giving Peter plenty of time to work on the second packet. He stumbled through a couple of the more complicated integrals just because he was fairly out of practice with math due to his time in Fandom, but all in all he was happy when he finished right before the half hour was over.

[OOC: Peter did very well but his rustiness was probably showing towards the end.]

Bah-link.

Jude shook his head a little and looked down at the packet. Numbers swam before his eyes. Oh this was going to be fun. If by 'fun' you mean 'painful'. Which, y'know, you might. If you were that way inclined.

[[So not doing well.]]

Luckily, Neil was sort of dating hanging around with a guy who's roommate was blazingly fast as well, so he wasn't entirely shocked when the professor blurred around the room.

[ooc: Neil, given his study for medical school, would be particularly strong towards algebra, calculus and anything involving formulas or chemistry. He wouldn't be quite as strong on geometry.]

Naomi enjoyed maths and she didn't find the test difficult. She managed to complete both packets within the half an hour time limit.

[Since Naomi would have been tutored in a range of maths subjects at different levels throughout her time on Voyager/before she came to Fandom, she did very well on the test]

Ami looked over the test and completed it in several minutes. Checking her answers she raised her hand.

The second packet was slightly more challenging, but Ami had gone through Calculus the previous year.

[ami is a genius, iq 300. she has been self-studying calculus and diff-eq, as well as affine transforms and matrix multiplication. she got everything right.]

Hermione hadn't had a standard math class in a long time, but once she'd saw that this class was being offered, she'd started studying. You know, to brush up.

She finished the first packet in good time, raising her hand for the second, and finished that one just in time, which was a good thing since otherwise she would have been flaily.

[First packet's easy peasy. She's out of practice in parts on the second, but it's Hermione. She'll study up and know it all next week.]

Rodney shook his head a bit at the blur and the suddenly appearing packet, but he quickly decided that the placement test was of much greater importance and focused on that. He finished quickly and eagerly raised his hand for the second one. That test took him a little longer, but he still had at least five minutes left when he was done. He sat back smugly and looked around at the students that were still working.

[Rodney is a theoretical astrophysicist, thus he did very well on both tests. However, due to his haste, he may have gotten one or two wrong.)

Math was something that a wizard used with almost surprising regularity, and so Ronan was quite practiced with it; his hand went up for the second packet within minutes. The second packet proved to be more of a challenge, but it was still nothing actually new, and so Ronan was about a page from the end when time ran out.

[Ronan's good at math; he didn't get it all finished, but what he did finish is dead accurate -- except for maybe a question or two in the first package that he got wrong from rushing.]

Bart was too distracted by the teacher moving at a speed he could get used to to take the test.

Until the last few seconds.

Then he quickly wrote out as many answers as possible. And was kinda impressed the paper didn't catch fire this time.

[Better on the more difficult than the easier, no work shown, random doodles of a squirrel instead. No mad math skillz here, just being from the future and a hyperactive brain]

Bart was pretty sure he didn't have a crazy twin. But there was always that crazy and murderous clone of his.

"I was pacing!"

"But I didn't!" Bart protested. Of course, there was that unspoken 'this time'.

Normal human pace! Bart flopped back in his seat, but didn't comment. Even if it was totally unfair.

Which it was.

So very.
