Combined Mathematics #1 [Friday 9-7, Period 4]

When the math students entered the classroom for the first time, they would find their teacher pacing a path in front of the chalkboard. The more observant among them might notice that his feet were not quite touching the floor. Those who were paying particular attention would notice that he also seemed to be vibrating ever so slightly.

“Good morning,” he said when the last student signed in and he stopped pacing. Even the nonobservant-and-falling-asleep should notice he had a bit of an accent. “I am Jean-Paul Beaubier—you may call me Mr. Beaubier, or Professor Beaubier if you prefer--and I will be teaching you math.” The ‘God help us all,’ went unvocalized. "First, we will all introduce ourselves so I know who I am dealing with, and then, you will have half an hour to complete placement tests so I know what I am dealing with. Let's get started. First, I would like each of you to tell me your name, what year you are in, and where you are from. Starting with...you," he said, pointing to someone at random.

Math was something that a wizard used with almost surprising regularity, and so Ronan was quite practiced with it; his hand went up for the second packet within minutes. The second packet proved to be more of a challenge, but it was still nothing actually new, and so Ronan was about a page from the end when time ran out.

[Ronan's good at math; he didn't get it all finished, but what he did finish is dead accurate -- except for maybe a question or two in the first package that he got wrong from rushing.]
