Detention, Saturday, June 2

When students entered the Danger Shop, they would have found it looked a whole lot like a palace made entirely of clouds. That was because it was a palace made entirely of clouds. The area was surrounded by cloud pillars. There were cloud chairs scattered around and a cloud table off to the side with real food and plenty to drink. There was even a cloud sound system where DJ Apollo was playing some tunes for the godly audience (mostly a lot of Marvin Gaye and The Who).

"Welcome to Mount Olympus, home of the gods. As punishment for your crimes against the school, or for having really bad luck, you're now part of the Pantheon, minus the godly powers. And hey, yeah, what do you know? It's a family reunion. Feel the pain. Now get in there and make like a god."

John approached Hades, "Excuse me sir, but would you be able to tell me why I have detention?" John was confused since none of his teachers had expressed any displeasure with him this week.

Granted Haku still hadn't gone though his large book of culture that he's gotten in the books store, but he'd never heard of this place.

"Sir, may I ask where Mount Olympus is? Or what it is? I don't think I remember seeing it on any maps."

"Did you get the banner we made for you in glitter workshop?" Luke asked perkily.

John thought this was really odd. "Oookay...Are you a vegetable, animal, or mineral?"

This was...interesting. Playing a guessing game with a Greco-Roman deity. Setsuna shrugged. Next she knew it, she'll be playing Scrabble with Shiva. "So, are you a vegetable, animal or mineral?"

Haku smiled, he and Zabuza would play games like this on the road. Or rather Haku would and Zabuza would just grunt or ignore him.

"All right. Are you vegetable, animal or mineral?"

Luke had played this game--it was much more popular that "I Spy" when all you could spy was sand, so he smiled at the...giant blue guy and asked, "Are you a vegetable, animal or mineral?"

"I could go for some hot dogs," John said preparing himself for a good contest.

Observing all the hot dogs, Setsuna closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. "Bring me a glass of water," she requested (something about being in Olympus made her feel more formal and regal that normal). She meditated a little, focusing her chi before the competition, but she did not call on Buddha or one of her Shinto gods. After all, a legend rang through the hills and rivers of Japan of a great man, who's skill at consuming hot dogs in such a fashion was simply not mortal. She called upon the spirit of Kobiyashi to guide her.

Luke wasn't exactly sure of the point of this, but he sat down anyway. "What's a hot dog?"

Well, Haku had eaten quite a few hotdogs when he bought them a few weeks before.

The small Japanese boy sat down and began eating quickly.

Which Setsuna....couldn't. She just sat, clenching her stomach and wondering if tea would help or hurt the situation...

John wasn't really hungry, so he looked around to find someone to talk to.

Re: Activity 3: Outspeechifying Hermes

[identity profile] missed-the-gate.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason, pie came to mind. John began, "I like pie. But not just flaky crusted, fruit pie and graham cracker crusted filling pie, but also the less loved number known as pi."

"Pie is tasty, and pi is useful when trying to cut a pie evenly. If you know the circumference of the circular pie, you divide the circumference by the quantity two times pi, giving you the radius. With the proper radius length, you know how long to make a cut in the pie so not to shortchange pie-eaters."

"Pie also has humorous uses. There is pie throwing and pie eating, which would have been way better than hot dog eating, and pie buying down at J,GOB. Pi is funny too because it's a homophone for pie!"

John was finished, but maybe a little hungry for pie.

Well, he asked for it, didn't he?

After a moment of thought, Setsuna started on swords.

She continued on swords. And continued, and continued, going through a several different varieties, classic ancient Japanese masters, the hundreds of schools and what made them different, bushido, hagakura, weight ratios, classic pieces currently on display in museums, and finished it all off with needlessly detailed tales of how she obtained her current three swords, what made them different, why she needed three different swords, and the meanings of their names.

If anyone was still awake after that, she was certain they'd be sufficiently wow'ed.

John was surprised to see Robert Goulet in the clouds. He helped Goulet take out the DJ. No more albums necessary when there was live Goulet!

Goulet distracted the gods by singing a song from his album (http://www.robertgoulet.com/index.php) while John ran around knocking into the swaying gods who fell like dominoes.
