Class 4: Magic

[OOC: Just so you know, if you're showing up and attempting the assignments, you're passing, no matter how bitchy Jareth gets about it. Sorry this is so late. I had crazy RL stuff to deal with. Also, if you haven't noticed by now, Jareth likes getting people's names wrong, on purpose.]

Today's Lecture:


"We've so far introduced manipulation and myth. Now I will introduce magic. How many of you think you know magic? Can you give me a definition?

Jareth waits, looking around the class.

"Magic is manipulating things and people in ways that others don't or can't. We are going to try an experiment." He twists his hands and a crystal appears.



Then a crystal appears in front of each of the students.

"This will show you your dreams--if you can manipulate it correctly. Too little, you will not see anything. Too far, and your dreams will seem like reality.

"Find partners and take turns...attempting to see. If your partner stops responding, raise your hand and we'll all take a little stroll into their dreams to fish them out."

Your dreams. The things you want, but won't necessarily get.

Your partner cannot see what you see, because they are your dreams. Unless they overwhelm you and I have to fish you out.

Jareth looks like he might actually be getting choked up. Then he sneezes and smiles with far too many teeth.

"It's so nice to see someone who understands it is an art, not merely an assignment."

Draco walks into class and sees crystal balls everywhere.

"Oh great. Why don't we bring in Trelawney while we're at it?" he says as he sits down in his chair. He quickly tried to think of something he could say to the professor.

Xander wanders in ten minutes late, blinks at the crystal ball, and notes that most people seem to be partnered up already. Hrrm.

[ooc - Xander's mun bitterly regrets that in order to have a correctly-aged Xander, she can't make him have already had the canon experience where he looks into a crystal ball and gets lost in his worst nightmare... *g*]

"So doing this alone would be... possible stupidity of epic proportions," he asks the professor, "or just not as fun?"

I believe there are two others who are looking for partners, Mr. Harrison. And I would not advise doing it alone. I can't watch you all the time and if you become...stuck...you will need a partner to alert me.
