Class 4: Magic

[OOC: Just so you know, if you're showing up and attempting the assignments, you're passing, no matter how bitchy Jareth gets about it. Sorry this is so late. I had crazy RL stuff to deal with. Also, if you haven't noticed by now, Jareth likes getting people's names wrong, on purpose.]

Today's Lecture:


"We've so far introduced manipulation and myth. Now I will introduce magic. How many of you think you know magic? Can you give me a definition?

Jareth waits, looking around the class.

"Magic is manipulating things and people in ways that others don't or can't. We are going to try an experiment." He twists his hands and a crystal appears.



Then a crystal appears in front of each of the students.

"This will show you your dreams--if you can manipulate it correctly. Too little, you will not see anything. Too far, and your dreams will seem like reality.

"Find partners and take turns...attempting to see. If your partner stops responding, raise your hand and we'll all take a little stroll into their dreams to fish them out."

Angelus stares at the crystal ball warily, not sure he trusts this particular assignment.

"Right there with you," Belthazor murmurs, feeling uneasy about the assignment as well.

Angelus put his hand on Bel's thigh arm. "A: Partner. B: How much do you think we can fake our way through this one?"

Belthazor looked at the crystal, feeling tingly uncharacteristically nervous. "Do you think they really want us living out our dreams in here? Because I thought all that violence and bloodshed was forbidden on school grounds."

"Yes," Angelus snapped his fingers at Bel to indicate that he found Bel to be a very wise man. "Yes. Good idea. And you know how I do like to stay out of trouble."

Evelyn is looking around the classroom and spies Belthazor and Angelus. A little nervously, she walks over to them.

"Mind if I sit in with you guys on this? I seem to be without a partner."

Belthazor looked around at the girls in the class with a grin. "Or maybe we can focus on different kinds of dreams."

"Speaking of," Angelus said, as Evie walked over.

I agree with you. There are some things that I don't trust being shown like it sounds.

"Sure," Angelus pulled a chair over so Evie could sit between them. "Bel and I were just trying to make heads or tails of this."

Evie sits and then looks from Angelus to Belthazor and then to the crystal that Jareth is showing them.

"I'm curious as to why he thinks we want others to see our dreams?"

"Bel and I were just asking ourselves that very same question," Angelus motioned between the three of them to show they were all in accord. "Seems personal. Downright dangerous if you ask me."

"Maybe we should get some clarification here," Belthazor said. "Is this going to show us our dreams, show our partners our dreams, or show the class our dreams? Because anything outside our own heads could be dangerous all right."

Evie shakes her head. "I'm not open to the idea of having the entire class seeing what's in my head. It could be downright frightening."

Belthazor looked Evie over. "What's in your head that's so scary?"

Behind Evie's head, Angelus gave Bel a look to indicate that this girl just got all kinds of interesting as far as he was concerned.

To Evie, he said, "Yeah, same here. Things I've seen... let's just say I don't think they're appropriate for most schoolchildren."

Evie looked down at her hands where her fingers were interlocked. "I would have to agree with you on that. Some of the things I've seen...the things I want to do...the things I know...no, I don't think they'd be appropriate for anyone in class."
