"I've known me longer than you have," Willow pointed out. Though she did put a hand down on the arm of the chair near his. Not touching, but near.

Peter's lips quirked in a small smile. "So I've an objective opinion then."

That got a small smile out of her. "Do not."

"Do so. I see you for who you are now and not who you were when you were 8 and blotted a composition for class," Peter replied.

"That totally affects your grade," Willow said. "They say they don't make notes if you screw up the first time, but they so do. That's why you have to burn the evidence."

Peter smiled and shifted his hand so that it was just touching hers. "My point exactly."

"I got all excited," Willow said, moving her hand so that she touched his with the tip of a finger. "You needed something and I was all happy that I could do it for you and the club and I could prove that I belonged there and you weren't excited with me and I felt so stupid and lonely."

"I didn't mean to make you feel stupid or lonely. I am so sorry that I did," Peter replied. "But, honestly, Willow, you don't need to prove you belong. You do belong. Absolutely."

"I'm not a fighter," Willow reminded him. "I'm just a stupid girl who thinks she can pretend to be."

Peter raised an eyebrow. "Not at all. You don't always use conventional weapons for your battles, but I think you're a fighter and definitely not stupid. You wouldn't be here if you weren't."

"I'm not a huge embarassment to the club?" Willow asked.

"Hardly," Peter said emphatically. "You're brilliant and dedicated and more than a minor asset."

Willow moved sideways in her chair so that she could pillow her head on his hand. "I felt so dumb."

Peter bit his lip. "I oughten'd have made you feel dumb. I truly didn't mean to."

"Not your fault I don't know a lot about gun ranges," Willow said.

"It's not like I'm any type of expert either," Peter said.

"So what do we do?" Willow asked.

"I'm rather hoping you'll accept my apology," Peter replied.

"Promise you don't think I'm stupid?" Willow asked, more needing the reassurance in general than because of what he'd just said.

"I'll swear on my sword that I don't if you'd like me too," Peter said.

Willow gave him a little smile. "Thank you. I accept your apology."

Peter reached to take her other hand. "Thank you."

"Can we cross, like, the last twelve hours off the record?" Willow asked. "I'd be good with that."

"If you'd like, certainly," Peter replied. Not that he wouldn't have replied the same for any suggestion from 'I rather like fish for dinner' to 'might I have the moon on a pendant?'

Willow freed a hand to sketch a big X in the air. "There. All gone. We can have happy, snuggly things now."
