"No salt?" Dawn teased, "Who are you and what have you done with Sam Winchester?"

"None of the books have tried to eat me yet, so I figure I'm safe. I have wondered if maybe a line of salt inside Special Collections would be good, but I don't know if Ms. Readman will go for that."

"Yeah, I don't know if you want to make the books mad." She peeked behind the desk. "So, how's your first day going?"

"Pretty well so far," he replied. "It's been kind of slow, but I'm learning where all the sections that I don't usually go into are. And Dean came by and only drove me a little crazy, so that's a plus."

"Do I want to know what Dean wanted?" Dawn began playing with some of the pens on the desk, "And ooh, what other sections? Do you have a favorite area yet?"

"He just came by to see me. It wouldn't be a proper first day without some older brother harassment," he explained. "I discovered that there's a whole section for romance type novels. That's a new section I found, not my favorite one."

"Romance novels?" Dawn made a mental note to come in some day when Sam wasn't working. "And what's your favorite, if that's not it?"

"Probably the mystery section of fiction, because it has the most books that I want to read, but haven't yet."

"I can't read mysteries. Or, I can, but I always get impatient and read the end first," she admitted.

"I do that sometimes too, even though I try not to," he said. "It just kind of enforces what Dean and my dad always say about me being impatient."

"You're impatient? I didn't notice that."

"That's because you haven't seen me involved in an actual hunt," Sam replied. "It tends to come out then, especially if I get left behind right before the actual fighting starts."

"Here's hoping I don't have to see you involved in an actual hunt," Dawn said, trying not to think about that. "Because that would mean there was badness, and that would be...bad."

"Very bad. Not that I don't think the people around here can handle badness, but...yeah, it would be."

"So...abuse any good powers yet?" She leaned against the desk.

Sam laughed softly. "Not yet, but it's only the first day. I'm sure opportunities will present themselves soon enough."

"So what do you do?" Dawn asked curiously, "Most of the librarians I knew...er, were really Watchers and didn't know much about the Dewey Decimal system."

"Right now, I mainly put books back where they belong, and help people find books, if they need the help. It's not terribly complicated," he admitted with a laugh.

"Anyone looking for anything good?" Dawn asked, nosy as always.

"Not yet. It's all been stuff for classes so far," Sam said, before letting his voice drop a little. "But I'll tell you later if anyone else comes in for something interesting."

Dawn giggled. "It's just being careful, right? So we know if someone's doing something they shouldn't be?"

"You know, I didn't think about it like that, but you're absolutely right. If someone comes in here looking for books on something bad, that would be a good sign that something's up."

"Or is about to be," she said with a nod.

"And as the people best equipped to stop bad things when they happen, it's up to us to keep an eye on things," he added.

"Best equipped? Us???" Dawn's eyes widened. "Like...me? Do you know something I don't?"
