Library [09/22]

Sam was feeling only a little nervous as he headed over to open the library for the first time. Luckily, being surrounded by books did a lot to help him relax.

Sam couldn't help but laugh. "Yes, I'm sure. I want to go with you and see you all dressed up, and I apologize in advance for my lack of dancing skills, but...yes, I really want to go with you."

Dawn did a quick Buffy check, then kissed Sam softly. "I really want to go with you, too. And I don't care if you can't dance."

"Good, because I really can't dance." He laughed and leaned in to kiss her back. "You have no idea how happy you just made me."

"You can learn, if you want." She wrapped her arms around Sam's waist and hugged him, cuddling in against his shoulder. "And you made me happy, too, so we're even. I asked my family for advice and got some...interesting answers."

Sam was pretty sure that he could stay with Dawn pressed against him like this for a long time. "What did you ask them for advice about?"

"I'm sorry, I didn't hear that clearly," he said, shifting just enough to get her face away from his shirt.

It took Sam a second before he got what she was saying. "You did? So you really did want me to ask you? What did they say?"

She looked up at him, "Of course I wanted you to ask me! That's why I said yes when you asked, duh."

"Um...there may have been mention of hair-tossing and black leather."

Not even Sam was innocent and good enough to keep his mind from wandering at the mention of black leather. "Who gave you the advice about the leather? Because they're very wise, and you should listen to their sage wisdom."

"Faith, of course," Dawn said, rolling her eyes, "Xander wanted me to move to Africa and Willow suggested an Eskimo coat."

"Okay, from now on, listen to Faith, and ignore Xander and Willow. Unless it's cold outside, and there's a blizzard, in which case, Willow's advice works."

Dawn snorted. "This is she who sent me the ginormous box of condoms when I was dating Dean. Still want me to listen?"

Sam's eyes widened a little and he shook his head. "Uh, on second thought, maybe you should be selective about what advice of hers to follow."

Dawn nodded smugly. "Yeah, I thought you might change your mind." Not that she didn't have leather pants in her closet...

"Only about some of that. The black leather...did I mention that that's a good thing? Is mentioning that that's a good thing going to get me in trouble?" he asked. "Because I can keep that to myself if it will."

"You may have mentioned it a few times, yes," Dawn said, giggling, "and you don't have to keep it to yourself--it's not like you're talking about it all the time."

She paused and glanced up at him. "You're not going to be talking about it all the time, are you?"

Sam shook his head quickly to reassure Dawn. "No, I'm not, because despite having the same last name, I'm not Dean, and I'm perfectly capable of behaving myself and not talking about this sort of thing all the time." Of course, that didn't mean he wouldn't think about it occassionally, but she didn't need to know that.

"Yay," she squeezed him. "And I know you're not Dean. Not that there's anything wrong with Dean other than the fact that he's dating Alec, but he's not you."

"It's kind of funny how many people have failed to realize that in the past," he said, grinning at the squeeze.

"Huh? You're a lot alike, but it's not like you're identical."

"I know that. But if we meet people through our dad, and they don't know us very well, sometimes they assume that Dean and I are exactly alike, and just like our dad."

"Well, I know you're not." She hugged him again, getting used to his height, especially when it meant she could hear his heart beating when they were close like this. "You and Dean are alike--in some ways. And I guess you get that from your dad, because where else would you get it? Buffy and I couldn't be more different, from each other or our mom."

"My dad says there's a lot of my mom in Dean, which I just have to take his word for, but I can see how that would be true," he said, putting his arms around her a little tighter.
