World History in a Nutshell - Week 1 (09/04)

It's entirely possible that Daniel is looking a wee bit jetlagged at the front of the class and is clutching at a cup of coffee like it's a lifeline.

He smiles as the class files in, leaning against his desk. Once they're all seated, he begins.

"Good afternoon and welcome to World History in a Nutshell. I'm Dr. Jackson, and I'll be taking you through this whirlwind tour of the history of Earth. On your desks is a copy of the tentative syllabus

First of all today, I'd like to go around the room and have everyone do a quick introduction so I can put names to faces."

After that was done, Daniel dimmed the lights.

"We're going to start off with an easy class on prehistory today. I have a documentary, which is about human evolution.

Once that's finished, I'm happy to take any questions and then you can take the Caveman Challenge. I'll be interested to see what percentage you'll get at the end."

[[ooc: Crashing soon and thus will pick up tags when I awaken again. Will also be working from ~2.30- ~10.00 EST]]

"Um, both. There were mummies and Jell-o dragons and the pond turned into coffee," Sam informed him matter-of-factly, "oh, and I'm not going to the academy."

"It's not as cool as it sounds," Sam waved it off, "since there were frogs and fish and weeds in it and it ruined the flavor. Oh, and I'm never allowed to cook again, after that weekend, and thanks for not getting me a plane ticket, by the way."

"No, I'm not," she played with the lid of her coffee cup. "I'm not going to college at all, I don't think."

"Well, I have two options right at this minute," she said, waiting to see how this went over, "the first is to go gallivanting around the galaxy with Kawalsky, and the other is to become a Time Agent with Jack Harkness, though that's probably not likely--there's red tape issues."

"What?" Sam asked, knowing he'd have an opinion.

"I'll always be an astrophysicist, Daniel," Sam shrugged, "but there's nothing I can learn from a university physics program that I don't already know, or know is wrong. I've given enough to the Air Force--she's still there. So, tell me. What else is there to do?"

"I'll figure out a way to get a message home," she said. "Unlike you, who has forgotten how to write a letter."

Sam looked decidedly skeptical. "Your girlfriend missed you, you know. She wasn't sure you were coming back."

"Did you tell her that, Daniel?"

Okay, so apparently Janet and Daniel had their wires crossed somewhere. She sighed. "One more thing, before you find out from someone else--I'm dating Jack Harkness, relatively seriously. And he's dating someone else, also seriously."

Sam burst out laughing. "God, I've missed you, Daniel."

"So, no threatening the significant other?" She looked at him sternly.

"Daniel...." Sam rolled her eyes with a tone of exasperation she hadn't used all summer.

"No violence," Sam was firm on that point.
