It's entirely possible that Daniel is looking a wee bit jetlagged at the front of the class and is clutching at a cup of coffee like it's a lifeline.

He smiles as the class files in, leaning against his desk. Once they're all seated, he begins.

"Good afternoon and welcome to World History in a Nutshell. I'm Dr. Jackson, and I'll be taking you through this whirlwind tour of the history of Earth. On your desks is a copy of the tentative syllabus

First of all today, I'd like to go around the room and have everyone do a quick introduction so I can put names to faces."

After that was done, Daniel dimmed the lights.

"We're going to start off with an easy class on prehistory today. I have a documentary, which is about human evolution.

Once that's finished, I'm happy to take any questions and then you can take the Caveman Challenge. I'll be interested to see what percentage you'll get at the end."

Daniel nodded. "I know," he said. "I meant to get back here earlier, but I had so many delays and things with flights and everything. Hopefully I'll get the chance to take her out to dinner this week."

Sam wasn't sure Daniel was getting what she was trying to tell him. "Good."

Daniel really was Dr. Oblivious. He smiled at Sam. "I'm pretty sure I still owe you a dinner for something," he said.

"I'm sure you do, too." Sam grinned at him.

Daniel laughed. "Just let me know when you're free, and we'll do it," he said.

"Whatever evening is good for you," Sam decided.

"I have absolutely no idea until I talk to Janet," said Daniel, grinning. "So I'll let you know instead." He paused, smiling at her. "I really missed you this summer."

She reached over to hug him. "I really missed you, too. You missed a lot, and it felt weird not to have you here to talk it over."

Daniel wrapped his arms around her and squeezed slightly. "Well, I'm back again now so I want all the details of what I missed and we can talk it all over now, okay?"

Sam squeezed him tightly. "Okay. I've given up Jell-o for a while. It attacked."

"Dare I ask

"Dare I ask <how</i> Jell-o attacked?" he asked. "It didn't have anything to do with the box I left in the back of my cupboard mutating or anything. Did it?"

Sam laughed a lot. "No, I don't think so. Jell-o dragons attacked. I ended up in the pond, but it didn't follow. Kind of embarrassing to be outsmarted by dessert."

Daniel grinned. "I'm sure you being outsmarted by anything is a one-off occassion," he said.

"You do it enough," she stuck her tongue out at him.

"Ah, but I'm different," said Daniel, snickering.

"Oh, I forget, you're brilllllllliant," she teased.

"Child prodigy and certified genius," said Daniel, laughing.

"Show off," Sam slurped at her coffee.

"Guilty as charged," said Daniel modestly. "Although it's not as if you're lacking in the brain's department either."

"Takes one to know one?" Sam suggested. "And I'm sure someone with would have been able to figure out how to cook by now," she said dryly.

"I'm not exactly the best cook in the world either," pointed out Daniel. "And, uh, you're just better at the explosive aspects?"

"I made everyone think they were in a musical version of the fifties and ended up kissing Kawalsky," Sam reported. "It would have been better if there'd just been explosions."

Daniel boggled. "You kissed Kawalsky</i?!" he exclaimed.

"For a while."

Still gaping. "At least that was the worse that you did? Right?"
