Stealth and Deception #6, Wednesday Morning, Danger Shop

As the class entered the saw Alfred standing behind a table in a large, column filled room. "Good morning class. Grab some breakfast and sit down, today is a long lecture day. I doubt we'll do anything practical."

"Now we've talked an awful lot about both stealth and deception, but there's one key element that we haven't discussed, one that I considered adding to my class title it was so important. It's one thing to get your way through a situation by lying, by decieving the searcher into thinking he's seeing something else. It's another to hide out of his vision, to make him never know that you are there.

"And it's quite another thing, though, if you do not have to employ any of these tricks," Alfred started to say before he suddenly and without explantation shimmered and disappeared.

"Because you have your searcher's attention focused somewhere else entirely," a voice said behind them. Aflred stood there with a remote. "I'm talking about distraction. The art of getting your enemy to look somewhere else entirely. Unfortunately," he continued, throwing the remote onto the table and walking around to the other side. "I have no particular techniques to demonstrate to you today. Becuase in this, there is not particular technique that works for every situation. More often than not it is merely the act of seeing an opportunity and grabbing it. Throwing a rock or a coin to imitate the sound of footsteps, rigging a disaster that requires the guards to all come running, making a feint, splitting your forces, and of course, the ever popular "blow up something important". These are all methods of getting your opponent, our paranoia created "constant searcher" to look somewhere else than where you are."

He walked over to the control console, pulled some glasses out of his pocket, and consulted a piece of paper. "Alright... this may take a while class, and for that I'm... no, wait! I've got it."

The scene shimmered and the students found themselves standing outside what appeared to be a small building.

"In this compound are secret documents," Alfred said, "vital to the well-being of the world. They are also, however, guarded round-the-clock by armed guards. The inside is filled with metal corridors, important machines, and all sorts of fun things which can be used for distraction. Including," he said looking over his glasses, "a small cache of explosives. So, what I want you all to do is dazzle me with your creativity. You're all a very bright and smart group, and today I am expecting to walk away from this room thinking "My heavens, I had never thought of that before. If only I had, that job in Mozambique would have gone so much easier. So go on, get into pairs and start dazzling me. I will provide any tools you want save those which could potentially be used as weapons. We're looking to get the enemy looking the other way."

Pippi grabs food.

Mmmmm, ubiquitous food.

Nadia signed in.

But didn't grab any food.

Nadia didn't talk during the lecture. She had a notebook out and was furiously scribbling as soon as she got a hint of what they were doing.

She also didn't jump when Alfred disappeared, but whether this was because she knew he was behind them or because she just didn't jump when she was surprised any more, well, that was a question for another time.

Sakurazaki had, of course, to transcribe most of the lecture into her notebook with her Japanese scribbling. But kept drifting off and idly sketching out little hearts in the margin. And reacted with the same startled, embarrassed expression each time she realized she was doing it, scribbling them out and trying to focus on the lecture again.

Nadia was taking stock of the area and still scribbling away. She was going to require a decent sidekick.

Sake is not a good partner the day after.

Jude was actually kinda good at this. On a usual day, however. Not a day where he was sitting pretty far away from Setsuna, pink-faced, and with bloodshot eyes.

Sakurazaki did have a pretty good plan that involved a skateboard, some wings, and the boy she'd woken up with that morning. But she did notice him sitting away from her today; she forced down her reservations with a gulp and sidled up next to him.

"I have a thought or two for this one," she said, quietly, "but if you're not up to doing much right now, I understand. But I don't know if I could think of something so ingenious with someone else." She smirked a little. She'd never experienced a hangover herself, but, looking at Jude, she was feeling empathicly miserable for him.

For some reason, Sakurazaki had been nervous about having to do this since she knew she had to. "Sir?" she bowed and presented Alfred with her pass (http://fh-office.livejournal.com/38013.html?thread=311933#t311933). "I regret that I will not be able to be here for the last class next week." But she is glad that, of all her teachers this session, he should understand why without too much of a problem.

Nadia approached Alfred holding her notebook and peering at a rather complex diagram of the simulated fascility, as well as the design for a rather odd contraption.

"I think we're going to need some tools. They're sort of . . . non-traditional."

Pippi raised her hand.

"Do we have the option of going in under the cover of darkness?"

Re: Infiltrate

[identity profile] dude-its-jude.livejournal.com 2006-08-16 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
This was pretty much perfect terrain for Jude and his board. And once someone got him started like this, no one could catch him. So the first and last thing the guards would see would be a blur of colour zipping by them, yelling "DuuuuuuuuuuuuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuudes!"

Hey, it was pretty distracting.
