Stealth and Deception #6, Wednesday Morning, Danger Shop

As the class entered the saw Alfred standing behind a table in a large, column filled room. "Good morning class. Grab some breakfast and sit down, today is a long lecture day. I doubt we'll do anything practical."

"Now we've talked an awful lot about both stealth and deception, but there's one key element that we haven't discussed, one that I considered adding to my class title it was so important. It's one thing to get your way through a situation by lying, by decieving the searcher into thinking he's seeing something else. It's another to hide out of his vision, to make him never know that you are there.

"And it's quite another thing, though, if you do not have to employ any of these tricks," Alfred started to say before he suddenly and without explantation shimmered and disappeared.

"Because you have your searcher's attention focused somewhere else entirely," a voice said behind them. Aflred stood there with a remote. "I'm talking about distraction. The art of getting your enemy to look somewhere else entirely. Unfortunately," he continued, throwing the remote onto the table and walking around to the other side. "I have no particular techniques to demonstrate to you today. Becuase in this, there is not particular technique that works for every situation. More often than not it is merely the act of seeing an opportunity and grabbing it. Throwing a rock or a coin to imitate the sound of footsteps, rigging a disaster that requires the guards to all come running, making a feint, splitting your forces, and of course, the ever popular "blow up something important". These are all methods of getting your opponent, our paranoia created "constant searcher" to look somewhere else than where you are."

He walked over to the control console, pulled some glasses out of his pocket, and consulted a piece of paper. "Alright... this may take a while class, and for that I'm... no, wait! I've got it."

The scene shimmered and the students found themselves standing outside what appeared to be a small building.

"In this compound are secret documents," Alfred said, "vital to the well-being of the world. They are also, however, guarded round-the-clock by armed guards. The inside is filled with metal corridors, important machines, and all sorts of fun things which can be used for distraction. Including," he said looking over his glasses, "a small cache of explosives. So, what I want you all to do is dazzle me with your creativity. You're all a very bright and smart group, and today I am expecting to walk away from this room thinking "My heavens, I had never thought of that before. If only I had, that job in Mozambique would have gone so much easier. So go on, get into pairs and start dazzling me. I will provide any tools you want save those which could potentially be used as weapons. We're looking to get the enemy looking the other way."

Pip slipped up behind the tree and waited to see if Pippi would do anything else and if the guards would react.

Soft bird noises come from the tree as if Pippi is having a conversation with the creatures. She points at the compound a few times.

Finally, the birds fly off with a squawk and she drops down to the ground.

"Okay, phase one will start shortly." she whispered. "They're going to gather numbers and then attack key points on the grounds, including outside the weapons cashe."

"...You learned how to rally birds to attack in Creature Languages?" Pip asked.

Shades of Into the Woods

"I learned how to talk to birds." she said with a grin. "I'm just naturally a persuasive gal."

Pip nodded and watched for the birds to attack.

Large groups of birds started to gather (http://www.homevideos.com/freezeframes5/birdsschool38.jpeg) around the roofs and wires in various areas of the grounds.

Pippi let out a loud squawk and the sky above the compound turned black.

"That's our que."

Pip nodded and ran out to the fence to scale it as the guards gaped at the birds swarming around them. He dropped to the ground and dashed off to the explosives cache as the guards took their first shot at the birds.

Pippi wasn't far behind him.

The birds swirled around the guards and drove them around the grounds, away from their various posts.

As more and more guards started shooting they began to caw in alarm and a few began to disperse early. Pippi had warned them that the guards may try to hurt them and they'd blown that off at first. But now that it was actually happening, they weren't so sure it was worth a buckets of fried chicken they'd been promised.

Pip ducked into the bunker and looked around. "Alright, detonators, C4, timers, remotes... I can get them all out of here real easy."

"Anything bigger that we can use? I can carry it."

Outside the sounds of gunplay and squawking are almost deafening.

"Oh, there's no need for that," Pip said. "People often under estimate how much you can do with a small amount of explosives."

He started wiring together several bomb packs.

Pippi looked around for something useful when the door next to her suddenly opened and a pair of guards rushed in to escape the birds. Of course several birds followed them.

So they were preoccupied enough with flailing and trying to keep their eyes, that Pippi was able to grab them and knock their helmeted heads together. Knocking them out.

Pip looked up. "Whoops. That's gonna be points off. Here, catch."

Pippi dropped the two unconscious guards on the ground and locked the door behind them.

"Well... We got disguises now..."

"Assuming they fit us," Pip said. "But I think this will get everyone's attention far far away from us. You know how to use a remote detonator?"

Re: Infiltrate

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"This one's jacket might fit you." she said pulling on the jacket belonging to the shorter of the two.

She leaned back and peered out of the window. In demolition, she generally used a fuse or a line of powder to set the charge off. Taking a wild guess she said.

"Hit the button and run like heck?"

Re: Infiltrate

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, only the idea behind the remote is that you can do it from far away, so no running is needed."

Re: Infiltrate

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooo! Detonation for lazy people!" she said.

Once she was done binding the two guards together with a conveniently discovered roll of tape she brought the other jacket and helmet over to Pip.

"That is sooo cool. But we gotta get moving because we're losing our birdy friends out there."

Re: Infiltrate

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep," Pip said. "Here, take this bomb and plant it on the large cylinder thing outside."

Re: Infiltrate

[identity profile] strongestgirl.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Pippi nodded and took the bomb.

Adjusting the helmet on her head, she ducked out of the door and ran to the large cylinder thing outside as if she was alarmed by the birds that didn't bother her.

Re: Infiltrate

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Pip shrugged on the coat and threw on the helmet and followed. He planted his bomb, ran out of the blast radius, and hit the button.

BOOOOOOOOOM.

Pippi ran up behind Pip grinning.

Normally? She'd be concerned that somebody would have been hurt. Even if they were bad people.

But these were holographic people, so she wasn't too concerned.

And?

'Splosions are pretty.

"Let's get those papers."

"Aye," Pip said, grabbing her hand and running into the compound.

Pippi?

Totally focused on the mission.

She's totally not thinking... Eeeeeee! He grabbed my hand! Eeeee!
