Library [08/15]

Rory hurried into the library bright and early, and settled herself behind the desk with her laptop.

She spent a little time looking up sonnets, since it had been awhile since she'd read her favorites anyway, then left that open in a tab.

If anyone came along, you see, she could switch to it quickly from the Wendy the Werewolf Stalker fic she was reading.

"Hmmm," Dawn tapped an eraser off her bottom lip. "You never leave anyone alive? Are there clubs or tribes or groups of these people and things, maybe?" She asked, thinking of how Angel had been cursed by Jenny Calender's ancestors.

Dean, who had got distracted looking at Rory and how she seemed to be more faded than Sammy or Alec, finally made it over to the table. He glanced at Dawn, then did a double take and stared.

"Hey Sam? Does Dawn look all green and glowy to you or is it just me?"

"Well, we have come across pairs and groups of people in the past," Sam admitted to Dawn. "We only kill whatever's causing trouble. Like, if there's a pack, but only one creature's gone wild, that's the one we get."

At Dean's question, Sam took a long glance at Dawn. "Um. That's just you. Dawn looks like she always does."

"Maybe it's someone who wanted revenge," Dawn said, making another note, then raising an eyebrow. "Is that a good thing? And be careful how you answer--I slept on my laptop last night."

"Dean wanted to know if you look green and glowy," Sam explained. "So, unless your laptop is radioactive..."

"Dean?" Dawn looked around quickly. "You found him? Where is he? Why didn't I hear him?"

And then her eyes widened, and she swallowed audibly. "Green and glowy? He...he can see that?"

Sam looked a little guilty as he realized he hadn't filled Dawn in yet. "Yeah I found him, sort of. He didn't disappear really - he's here now, and he can see us and hear us, but not the other way around. Except that I can kind of hear him for some reason we haven't figured out yet."

"And yeah, I guess he--wait, he can see what?" Sam gave Dawn another glance. "You're not actually glowing, I swear."

"We'll get there, Sam," Dawn promised.

"Dean?" Dawn looked around and sighed. "You're not crazy, but it may just be you seeing it right now, though Bridge can see it too, if he looks."

"So... green and glowy is normal?" Dean asked slowly. "Nothing we should be worried about?"

"Dean's asking if green and glowy is normal. Which is something I'd kind of like to know too," Sam said.

"Green and glowly is normal. For me. It's a thing." She shrugged. "Long story."

"Okay," Sam said slowly. Dawn was crazy if she thought he wasn't going to demand that long story at some point. "Well then...that's another clue, I guess? That Dean can see that?"

"Usually it's a sign that the person is mentally ill," Dawn admitted, "or that they're psychic."

Sam wasn't sure if he liked either of those options where Dean was concerned. "That's why Bridge can see it, right? Because he's psychic, not because he's crazy."

"Right," Dawn nodded, then asked, "Dean? Are you feeling any different? Psychic? Crazy?" She couldn't see him, but it felt weird talking to Sam when he was theoretically standing right there.

"No more than usual," Dean said, though he was a little freaked at the possibility. Because if he was crazy, would he know? And this was certainly a crazy situation...

Sam shook his head in response to Dawn. "Although I'd like to point out that being invisible to everyone is pretty different," he said, managing a fairly calm tone.

"True." She frowned as she thought of something. "Maybe...maybe...hmmm. Dean? What can you tell us about what you see? Does it look just like Fandom, or are things kind of...shifted?"

"It's still Fandom but the colours are all faded, washed out," Dean said. "Except for the people. Well some of the people, some others are starting to look washed out too."

Sam started repeating that, until he got to the last part. "Wait, what do you mean the people are getting washed out?"

"Just that," Dean said with a shrug. "Not you or the green glowy ex-girlfriend, you're still the same. Or glowy. But Rory's looking more faded."

"He says that some people look more faded than others, like Rory," Sam explained. "But you and I are still all right."

It felt to Dawn like she'd just had several large rocks settle in her stomach. "He may be stuck in another dimension. Was there a portal?"

"There was a flash of light and I woke up on the floor," Dean said. "Didn't seem like a portal, least not the kind I've experience with."

"It didn't look like a portal to either of us, just a bright flash of light," Sam said. "And it wasn't like the last portal we dealt with. But, it was a pretty bright flash, so I know I didn't have my eyes open the whole time."
