FH Library, Thursday

Angela believed it was very important she familiarize herself with the contents of the library before any new librarian was hired.

For example, she hadn't spent much time in the A/V room during the school year. And the second season of Vanessa Saturn had just come in on DVD, and Angela really wanted to find out who sank the yacht for the class trip.

So until someone came in to interrupt, Angela was watching a teen-chick-detective marathon on the computer at the counter.

Marty snickered and returned the kiss. "Not really but I suspect that since it is summer that it's pretty dead around hear."

"It sounded on radio like Rory was pretty busy Tuesday," Angela shrugged. "But yeah, it's been quiet every time I've worked." She finally noticed the food and pointed. "For me?"

"Yes. Thought you'd like a cool treat to get you through the day," Marty said sliding the drink and food closer. "I didn't know if it got stuffy in here with all the heat going on outside."

"It's not too bad, but treats are good," Angela said approvingly. She opened the fruit salad. "Oooh. Lots of melon."

"Thought you might like that," Marty said peering around at the monitor. "Is that Vanessa Saturn? I lost track of what happened last season because of my disappearing act last April. Anything good happen?"

"I'm completely confused because I missed about half the episodes," Angela said. "So I'm kind of trying to fill in the blanks myself. But you know the obnoxious guy's little brother who gets all sweet with P.C.? I think there's something weird going on with him."

"Really?" Marty said with his interest perking up. "I may have to check those DVD's out sometime when they're not being officially used for library business."

Angela gave him a "don't be a dork" look. "You could come around behind the counter and watch with me."

Marty looked around the library as if somebody was watching them. "The library police won't bust out and arrest me for stepping behind the counter will they?"

"I don't think so?," Angela said. "And if they show up, I'll pretend to be Parker and just glare until they go away."

"Oh yeah? I'd like to see that," Marty replied. "Let me see your glare and see if it is worthy of Parker's."

Angela imagined Marty was Danielle.

And that she had just read Angela's 9th-grade diary over the loudspeaker while making editorial comments. She was also eating a gloppy chili dog and wearing Angela's favorite dress.

Her eyes narrowed. "How's this?"

The look was enough for Marty to take two steps back. "I'd say that's a pretty effective glare. Thank God I haven't annoyed you lately."

"Lately," Angela said, holding the glare for a moment longer. Then she started to laugh. "I pretended you were my sister."

"What was she doing? Talking on the phone all the time with her boyfriend or just pestering you to get a reaction," Marty said with a laugh.

"It was a little more elaborate than that," Angela admitted though a giggle. "The 'get off the phone now glare is more like this."

She demonstrated a slightly softened look.

"You have your glares down," Marty said looking impressed. "Do you have any more in your repetoire?"

Angela thought about it, and shook her head. "Two's usually enough," she said. "Why, do yoou have more?"

"Just the one," Marty said demonstrating. "I don't use it much anymore now that Bel seems to be on the straight and narrow. So to speak."

Angela shivered. "Yeah, that'd work," she said. "So I saw merPhoebe yesterday."

"Merwhat?"

"Phoebe-the-mermaid?" Angela tried again. "At the beach. She was in this reallly good mood, she just had a tail. And she said Bel was mad at her."

Marty continued the buh moment for a moment or two longer. "Oh. That's weird. Was there a little crab singing about life under the sea as well?"

Angela snickered at that. "Not that I saw, but I might have missed it."

"I brought her a hamburger. She said she was okay but a little sick of seafood."

"Well when your only choice is sushi? Yeah, I can see that," Marty slipping behind the counter. "That was pretty nice of you though. Any idea if she's going to be regular Phoebe again?"
