FH Library, Thursday

Angela believed it was very important she familiarize herself with the contents of the library before any new librarian was hired.

For example, she hadn't spent much time in the A/V room during the school year. And the second season of Vanessa Saturn had just come in on DVD, and Angela really wanted to find out who sank the yacht for the class trip.

So until someone came in to interrupt, Angela was watching a teen-chick-detective marathon on the computer at the counter.

Having yet another day free of workshops, Marty decided the best thing he could do was to visit the library and try to expand his mind somewhat.

The fact that his girlfriend is working there today just happens to be a happy coincidence. As is the fact that he's carrying a couple of iced coffee and a refreshing fruit salad filled with said girlfriend's favorite ingredients.

"Hey you," Marty says plopping the coincidental offerings on the library counter. "Hard at work?"

Angela paused the DVD with near ninja-like speed and smiled. "Depends," she said, leaning over for a kiss hello. "Does hissing at Donovan for having a baby and generally being a dork count as working?"

Marty snickered and returned the kiss. "Not really but I suspect that since it is summer that it's pretty dead around hear."

"It sounded on radio like Rory was pretty busy Tuesday," Angela shrugged. "But yeah, it's been quiet every time I've worked." She finally noticed the food and pointed. "For me?"

"Yes. Thought you'd like a cool treat to get you through the day," Marty said sliding the drink and food closer. "I didn't know if it got stuffy in here with all the heat going on outside."

"It's not too bad, but treats are good," Angela said approvingly. She opened the fruit salad. "Oooh. Lots of melon."

"Thought you might like that," Marty said peering around at the monitor. "Is that Vanessa Saturn? I lost track of what happened last season because of my disappearing act last April. Anything good happen?"

"I'm completely confused because I missed about half the episodes," Angela said. "So I'm kind of trying to fill in the blanks myself. But you know the obnoxious guy's little brother who gets all sweet with P.C.? I think there's something weird going on with him."

"Really?" Marty said with his interest perking up. "I may have to check those DVD's out sometime when they're not being officially used for library business."

Angela gave him a "don't be a dork" look. "You could come around behind the counter and watch with me."

Walter came in after Wilderness Survival, making another survival choice about going outside - not doing it.

"Hello, Angela. Can you help me find a couple of different types of books?"

"Hey Walter," Angela said, pausing her DVD again. "I can try. What are you looking for?"

"Books on metallurgy, weapon design, chemistry of things like gunpowder, weaponsmithing, and cryptography."

He smiled when he heard his own list and held up his hands, saying, "I promise I'm not planning some Fandom invasion."

"That's more intereasting that the requests we usually get," Angela said, frowning in concentration and tapping into the card catalogue database. "Um. Okay. Those things are all over the place." She handwavily gave Walter the appropriate Dewey Decimal System numbers and pointed out where they would be in the library.

"And it's way, way too hot to invade."

"It is too hot to do much of anything but hide in the air conditioning." Walter took note of her directions and headed off into the stacks to find the books he needed, returning with a substantial stack of books that added up to "how to make a gun and write your plans out in a way no one else can read."

"Just some light reading."

Maybe butlers had a different idea of light reading. "Usually people who say that raid the Tom Clacy and Nora Roberts shelves," Angela said, preparing to stamp the books out. "You have a card, right?"

Walter nodded and pulled his library card out of his wallet. "I haven't read either of those, and I was joking about light reading. I don't do a lot of reading for pleasure, these are more work-related."

"They're okay if it's what you like," Angela shrugged, finishing the check-out.

She paused when Walter made the comment about 'work-related.' "Is there something going on at Cafe Fina that we should know about?"

Walter burst out laughing at the unexpected line of thought, although he supposed he should have expected it. "No," he said, shaking his head, still chuckling a little before he sobered. "These are for my employer at home, and because I owe Pip a new M16."

"Ohhhh," Angela said, only feeling slightly stupid. "So you're going to build a gun? That's weirdly impressive."

Bel walked into the library in the morning. "Got any books on mermaids?" he asked unhappily.

Angela gave Bel a sympathetic look. "Piper hasn't found a spell to work, huh?," she asked, tapping at the catalogue. "We have some stuff in mythology, and then ... huh. Looks like there are a few books on mermaid culture in with the exotic animal collection. Only in Fandom." She directed Bel too the proper shelves.

"Not yet," Bel said in answer to Angela's question. "But we're still trying. Figured I could look up some information here and see if that's helpful at all. Can't hurt."

"I hope it can't, anyhow," Angela said. "Let me know if you can''t find what you need."

"Thanks," Bel said. "I'll let you know." He headed off into the stacks to do some mermaid research.
