Arts & Crafts Workshop #4, Camp Dining Hall, 07.31.06, Afternoon

[OOC: Whee, class. As with last session, you can wander around in afternoon posts taking pictures of stuff for your scrapbooks. Ask permission to jump into a post if you think the original poster might have an issue of some sort with you jumping in and taking pictures. Class Info Post]

"Hello, campers! Today we will be working on eggshell mosaics! A mosaic is a picture or pattern formed by piecing together small, colored pieces of some kind of hard material. Stone, tile, and glass are used in professional mosaics, but since we're just a summer camp, you get eggshells!"

"Your instructions are simple. Take some of the colored egg shells that are sorted up here at the front of the room, take an object - we have posterboards, boxes, cylinders, and even a couple of vases - and figure out some sort of picture or pattern to put on it, finally gluing the eggshells onto it, showcasing the newborn chick of artistic creativity! Here are some examples of finished projects."

"Our scrapbooks will also involve pictures. While the glue on your mosaics is drying, you should take a disposable camera from the front table, go out into the world, and record what you see, a single still frame of life at a time! There are 24 exposures. Try to take 24 pictures of anything you want, even if you have to get a picture of a tree or your foot!"

Jamie spent a good deal of time working on his picture. When he was done he had created a picture of a multi-colored Easter egg.

"Is it too obvious?" Jamie asked craning his head over to look at Molly's project. "I like yours. Is that supposed to be Hello Kitty 'Hi There Cat'?"

Molly grinned. "Thanks. Not specifically 'Hi There Cat'," she said with a shrug, "but that general idea, yeah."

She looked at Jamie's picture again. "I wouldn't call yours obvious. It's the last thing I would have thought to make a picture of using egg shells," she said with another grin. "It is a nice easter egg. Very colorful."

"Thank you! I find it to be very egg-citing," Jamie said with a grin.

Whether he was grinning at the compliment or the bad pun is not entirely clear.

Molly took a small box and made a white kitty face on the top. The rest of the box she covered with pink (what else) shells.

Hermione spends a long time trying to think of something to make a mosaic of. She ends up making a clock, very very precisely.

Stark took a small box and then tried to decide what sort of picture to make. Eventually he decided that it didn't have to look like anything in particular, so he just started on a design that he thought looked good. He was very intently working to place the eggshells just so. Most of them were blue, some were green, and there were a few yellow ones scattered throughout the design.

Alec had a piece of black posterboard and was using eggshells to make a picture of a cow and a chicken. And then there was a dog attacking the chicken and the cow looked sort of bemused. The eggshells denoting blood didn't seem to be any redder than a dark pink though, so it didn't look as gory as it otherwise might.
