Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

"To make Veronica late for work so her surprise party could get organised." See? It all made sense. "Of course, I should be grateful she didn't give me a real sprain when she found out."

"Oh! Okay. Was she surprised?"

"She looked it," he nodded. "Next surprise party where I have to distract, I've got to come up with a better plan, though."

Molly chuckled. "Maybe you could stage a kidnapping," she suggested.

Cameron considered it for a second. "Considering that more than half of the school can kick my ass, I think that might be a bad idea."

"It wouldn't have to be a real kidnapping, but maybe you're right," Molly said. "Someone would probably get the wrong idea and then it would be a big mess."

Then a thought occurred to her. "Speaking of parties for birthdays, when is yours? You never did tell me before."

"August 24, but I'm not planning on having a party," Cameron said with a shrug.

"Awww, well, you don't have to have a party, but you should do something fun for your birthday," Molly said. "Will you at least let me get you a cake? Everyone has to have cake on their birthday."

"Let it be known that I never pass up on food," Cameron told her.

"Good," Molly said with a nod. "Hmmm, August 24th," she continued to herself, "that isn't a lot of time."

"A lot of time for what?" Cameron asked.

"Nothing," Molly said quickly. "Just an observation." She grinned at him.

Cameron narrowed his eyes. "Evil," he repeated.

Molly laughed and changed the subject again. "Are you ready for the basketball game tomorrow?"

"As ready as I'll ever be? If I don't get detention or sprain my ankle for real," he replied. "How about you for cheerleading?"

Molly made a 'so-so' hand gesture. "I've been practicing by myself whenever I can get to the gym, but Wednesday was the first scheduled practice I'd been to in a while. It also sounds like there haven't been that many actual practices since Buffy left."

"Sounds like you need to get a new leader to run things," he tilted his head. "Have you considered a coup?"

Molly grinned. "Maybe I'll just offer to help Marie and Alec first," she said.

"Nah, you got to be more ambitious," Cameron grinned.

Molly raised an eyebrow. "I need to get myself into a good position before I try anything though. Get an idea of what I'm up against."

"Smart," he nodded. "Recon is very important."

Molly lifted her chin proudly. "Nico thought I never paid attention during planning meetings, but I did."

"Uh huh, because you're sneaky," he teased.

Molly narrowed her eyes at Cameron. "I can be," she said a bit defensively.

"I know," he assured her, this time serious.
