Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

[Yes, the schoolgrounds have snow. I'm weathermodding and saying it's cool enough today through this evening for it to stick, and it'll melt overnight. And yes, we're having Festivus in July. For those not in the know, here is a handy Wiki link! Please wait for OCD. Up, yay!]

River lay down on her back and waved her arms and legs to make a snow angel. Some traditions had survived to the future, even moving to another solar system.

It was a bit chilly without the winter clothes however.

She wondered if Berthold liked snow. It did resemble ice cream a little, only without the cream.

Parker's giggling. Only a little, but still.

"Aren't you cold?" She waved to River, and put her hands on her hips. "And wet?"

River looked up at Parker and smiled. "Yes."

"Uh-hunh." Parker smiled back, and of course the music started up. Walkin' through a Winter Wonderlannnnnd..."You just don't care, hmmm?"

"Not right now, no," River replied. "Try and make one yourself?"

Parker's eyes widened, and she protested, "This suit is Versace! It'd be ruined! And..." Total loss of dignity. Even though it looks like fun... "I don't think I'm the snow-angel type." She looked wistfully down at her clothes, wishing she'd worn something more sturdy that morning.

"What's Versace?" River asked. Then she quickly grabbed some snow and threw a snow ball at Parker.

Parker spluttered. "This *was*. God!" She picked up some snow of her own and hurled it at River. "Damnit. Isabel gets more dry-cleaning business."

River brushed the snow off her dress. "What's the point of clothes that you can't throw snow on?"

The question was honest, really.

"Prettiness! And sometimes comfort. Mostly the impression you make, though." Parker rolled her eyes, still not about to make a snow angel, but packing a snowball and looking around speculatively now. "Serious clothes make a serious impression."

"Oh." River glanced at her own clothes. She guessed they didn't qualify as serious.

Parker caught the glance, and grinned. "Some people--" Zero, Angela, Jarod-- "--would say I need to lighten up when it comes ot the clothes thing. Clothes can make you or break you, though. At least, in my world."

River grinned back. "I would miss making snow angels though. Haven't done this in a very long time.

Tyler made a snowball and tossed it form hand to hand. "Hi."

River looked up at him. "Hi. I wonder if Berthold likes snow."

"Probably," Tyler said. "He likes ice cream. And with the tentacles, I bet he'd enjoy throwing snowballs at people's ankles."

River laughed. "Unfortunately he's so shy. How are you today?" She stretched her leg and poked Tyler's foot with her toes.

Tyler grinned at the poking. "Better now that you're here," he said. "You?"

"Ditto. But I think I might be getting cold." She waved her arms and legs some more.

Tyler poked her arm with his sneaker. "You could stand up, doof."

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. But I haven't made a snow angel in a long time." She smiled, but with a hint of sadness. Then, sitting up, she grabbed some snow and threw at Tyler while giggling.

Tyler noticed the lightning-quick play of emotions over her face, and smiled a a little warily as the snow hit him. "I'm wounded!,": he protersted, and tossed his snowball at her.

River quickly rolled to the side, and the snowball hit her shoulder. She got to her feet and reached out to brush the snow off Tyler. "Sorry," she said.

"I'll live," he promised, brushing the snow off River in turn.

He was careful to keep it more like brushing and less like groping.

The brushing off snow was nice. River wondered if applying more snow would result in more brushing off. She threw a handful of snow over their heads, and while the flakes circled down she quickly reached up to kiss Tyler.
