Summer Session 2, Scoobying Workshop #2, Afternoon 7/18/2006

[Roster]

There are drinks set out on a folding table near the unlit campfire. There's also a cardboard box at each end of the table, as yet unopened. Xander is standing in front of the table handing out cups.

"This one might go a lot easier than it did last time, considering what I'm gonna do today is make you talk, and after this weekend, I don't think anybody's gonna have a problem coming up with things to say. There's a catch to it, though, and it'll be a little different than when the last class played this game, too."

"Last week we looked at one specific job someone might have on a team; this time, we'll go with a skill that can be useful for anybody when you're trying to support your fellow Scooby-types -- or your flashy superpowered leader, if you have one. We'll switch back and forth between those two things each week for most of the workshop, and look at putting them together towards the end.

So what skill comes in really handy when you're trying to investigate a crime, stop the bad guys, rescue the princess or otherwise save the day for goodness, justice, puppies, and truth?

The ability to lie your ass off.

I know that sounds kind of contradicty, like 'jumbo shrimp' or 'bad pie,' and some of you guys may not be down with bending the truth until it squeaks, but the fact is that sometimes you might have to, at least for a while. You may need to cover for your friend with the secret identity, or your entire group that just cut class to go slay creepy guys with scalpels jello dragons, or yourself, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. And hey, maybe you'll get lucky enough not to need it -- but it's a skill you should have, just in case."

[Open like a thing I am not lying about being open! Posted early because as with last week, work, she shall be nuts, so my availability to ping in will also be limited and erratic.]

Parker grins and looks around for someone to lie to.

So Broots might be feeling a little suicidal today. "I don't think we've met."

Parker glared at him, then grinned evilly. "No, I don't believe we have. Brigitte. And you are?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Broots did his best not to back away. "Taylor." Broots came up with the first name that popped into his head. "How long have you been here?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Three years. Which you'd know, if you weren't new." Parker's grin kept getting wider. "So. What did you get kicked out of your last school for?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Blowing up the chem lab. They didn't appreciate my efforts to help the school out." Broots considered his next question. "Didn't I run into your sister the other day?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker blinked, give Broots credit. "Possibly. Was she still picketing the movie theater, protesting the killing of baby seals? I've told her not to do that." She cocked her head. "Or did she just hit on you?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"More like she hit me when I pointed out that there weren't any baby seal deaths in the past twenty years." Broots tried to come up with something that wouldn't get him killed. "Does she often chain herself to movie theaters?"

"Go, Ermintrude." Parker snickered, then said, "Only when the moon is full. She's a were-protester. It's nothing to be ashamed of. She'll be wearing Prada again by tomorrow." She took a breath, then looked at the computer case he's brought in. "So. That yours?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Broots bit down on his lip to keep from bursting out laughing. Parker's question did throw him off balance for a second. "Wha-no! No way! It's my sisters. I wouldn't even know how to turn it on if there wasn't a handy arrow pointing the way."

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"So you don't mind if I borrow it?" She grinned. "I have to send an e-mail to... uh... right. My terrorist cell."

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course not." Broots made no move to remove the laptop case from his shoulder. "Which country?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Greece. I speak prefect Greek. //Yes, I speak Greek.//" Which was a lie, since that was the *only* Greek she spoke. "Is now good for you? I want to contact them before the stock exchange closes in Hong Kong."

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Broots hesitated but handed the laptop over with a warning look. Or at least what he hoped looked like a warning look. "You have about twenty minutes. Which government are you planning on taking down?"

Parker's grin widened. "The French. Damn them. With their shoes and wines. Viva la Resistance! Right?"

She carefully opened the computer, then hummed. "Gosh. I don't know how to get into the chat program. And you don't either, right? So I guess I better just hit a few buttons."

Hamlet tries to give Parker his widest grin. "I certainly am feeling cheerful today. And yourself?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker's actually in an okay mood, so she decides to go for: "Desperately unhappy. I have a violent allergy to the color black." She stared sadly at his clothing, then politely said, "Have you gone to this school for very long, Mr....?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] ihatedenmark.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hamlet offers his hand out to Parker in a handshake gesture, making sure that part of his sleeve is over his palm.

"Oh, feel free to simply call me 'Gertrude'. Everyone else seems to. And I've only just joined at the beginning of this semester. Are you new to Convention High as well, sir?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Parker blinked, annoyed, then grinned at Hamlet, impressed at that particular trap. "No, Trudi, I've only gone to Fandom here for about a week. And I hate to correct you, but as an alien, I don't have gender. Have you been on the run from the police for very long?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] ihatedenmark.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
He put his hand up on top of his heart in mock anguish.

"Oh dear, my mistake. I would hate to offend one of my fellow extraterrestrial students. I only wish that I had some sodium nitrite here to offer you in apology. Rory informs me that aliens enjoy that sort of thing."

He sighed dramatically. "And yes, I have been for a while now. You murder one scottish ruler in your own guest room with a pillow full of shrews, and it seems as though everyone suddenly desires having your head impaled upon a pike."

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd love some, but I'm trying to lose weight." Parker has no idea what that is, but what the hell. "But don't worry about it. And you murdered a Scotsman? Don't they give you a free trip to Paris for that? That seems so unfair. When I ran over the head groundskeeper at Lochlaurie, they were nice enough to give me a parade." She grinned. "So. Hooked up with anyone since you got here?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] ihatedenmark.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"They used to, but recently all you receive is a version of the home game and a sound beating. I have, however, slept with many a person here. Duo, Rory, Cally, Alec -- but who has yet to sleep with him? -- Anakin, several of the jello dragons, that pink rabbit, the magical locker, Earl the giraffe, that Parker girl... It's as though I can never get a decent day's rest here."

He pretended to look hungry. "I hear there's a chef on campus. Is the food any good?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"It's excellent. Seriously. They do a chicken a l'orange that's to die for. You can hardly taste the snickerdoodles." Parker's grin was widening. "Really, I'm impressed by your amorous adventures. I've taken a vow of celibacy myself. You'd be amazed at the offers you get when people think you're not on the market. Sad. Tell me, Trudi, is that your natural hair color? And that Parker girl, I heard she's insane. What's your take on her?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] ihatedenmark.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hamlet primped his hair a bit. "Of course it is. My entire family is gifted with the bleached blonde hair dating all the way back to my Asian ancestors. As for that Parker girl, I heard that she was a very quiet, bookwormish sort of girl that stays quiet and never gets into trouble. Do you know if she's ever seen with that Hamlet sandwich student?"

"I've also hear that one of the courses this summer is centered around ... decepting? Pretending? Make-believing? Something of that nature. Have you heard of it?"

Re: Tell Each Other Sweet Little Lies

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"It's lovely. And oh, that poor thing. I'm always touched when I hear about sad little shy people. However did you manage to interact with her?" Parker managed not to snicker *too* much, then said: "No, I don't believe she's ever around him. He hangs out with the Up With People movment, you know. Such a credit to the school."

Parker bit her lip, and said: "I don't believe I know the course you're speaking of. Perhaps it's for remedial children?"
