There are drinks set out on a folding table near the unlit campfire. There's also a cardboard box at each end of the table, as yet unopened. Xander is standing in front of the table handing out cups.

"This one might go a lot easier than it did last time, considering what I'm gonna do today is make you talk, and after this weekend, I don't think anybody's gonna have a problem coming up with things to say. There's a catch to it, though, and it'll be a little different than when the last class played this game, too."

"Last week we looked at one specific job someone might have on a team; this time, we'll go with a skill that can be useful for anybody when you're trying to support your fellow Scooby-types -- or your flashy superpowered leader, if you have one. We'll switch back and forth between those two things each week for most of the workshop, and look at putting them together towards the end.

So what skill comes in really handy when you're trying to investigate a crime, stop the bad guys, rescue the princess or otherwise save the day for goodness, justice, puppies, and truth?

The ability to lie your ass off.

I know that sounds kind of contradicty, like 'jumbo shrimp' or 'bad pie,' and some of you guys may not be down with bending the truth until it squeaks, but the fact is that sometimes you might have to, at least for a while. You may need to cover for your friend with the secret identity, or your entire group that just cut class to go slay ~~creepy guys with scalpels~~ jello dragons, or yourself, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. And hey, maybe you'll get lucky enough not to need it -- but it's a skill you should have, just in case."

Broots let out an involuntary whimper but then took a deep breath. And another. And a third just for luck. "Go ahead, but I've got to warn you, she has a black belt in Karate and she ignored the whole "don't harm others" thing."

Parker tapped her fingernails on the case, grinning a little at the whimper, then said, "Perhaps I can give it to... my husband. Yes. I'm sure he'd find a good use for it." She gave Broots a warning glare, and flicked the off switch.

Broots let out yet another deep breath. "Oh, how long have you two been married?" And then, because he just couldn't stop himeslf. "Is he the young man I saw you with this morning?"

"Probably. Jeraldo works as a undercover spy and pool cleaner. We've been married ten years, really. Did you see us at the gym?" Parker picked up the computer by its handle, swinging it on two fingers in front of him. "I'm so glad you don't want this back. He'll love it."

Broots finally snapped. "Please don't hurt my laptop!" Then Miss Parker's words kicked and he snorted.

Parker snickered in response. "Awww. Jeraldo will be so disappointed." She handed over the laptop, then pointed at him and touched her nose. "Buzzzzt!"

Broots stuck his tongue out at her and fixed the laptop on his shoulder. "Continue?"

"Why not?" She grinned. "So. Does your sister plan on attending Fandom High?"

"I ho-yes, she is. She'll be joining us in the fall. And yours?"

"Ermintrude's on sabbatical until the charges are dropped," Parker says with a completely straight face. "That way, the next school won't have any warning. So, going to take up martial arts this semester?"

"Yup. Don't how my leg will feel about it, but I'm all ready to go and... hit things again. Speaking of charges, how did you wind up here?"

Parker blinked, trying to figure a way around that one, then decided to just make up something totally unconnected to school. "Jeraldo needs to be close to D.C. in order to spy on the senators. You know how it is, in a two-career marriage. Or do you?"

Broots blinked at that and tried to come up with an answer. "Well, my parents both work in the same field so I can't say that I do. What are you planning on doing after school?"

"After I tour the world as Miss America, I'm planning on opening a musical center for children with leprosy," Parker said. "Of course, that's only if I don't win the lottery."

Broots nodded. "And if you don't win the lottery, how are you planning on financing your lofty goals?"

"Robbing banks." Parker paused, thinking. "Wait. Hmmm.... Yes. Robbing banks. After hours. Like Kittychick."

Broots's eyebrows shot up. "Any preferance for a get away car?"

"A Yugo." Parker winced. "God. Yes. Best car ever." She pouted at Broots. "I love this game. Really."

Broots grinned. "Definetly. Except now I'm kind of wondering how exactly you came up with half of that."

Parker gave him a deadpan look, then grinned. "I subscribe to newsletter?"

Broots snorted. "You with a sibling is an idea I'm having trouble wrappnig my mind around. Pretty much like my sister acting anything but blonde."

Parker stared at him a long moment, then said, "If I'd ever had a sibling, I'm sure it would've been a girl." She paused. "Your sister is blonde"

"My sister acts blonde." Broots corrected. "She's a brunette. I'd hate to see what you'd do if you had a younger sib."

"Me too." Parker doesn't look like she means it, though. "That would... suck." She forced a smile. "Good thing it'll never happen, right?"

"Not suck." Broots corrected and tried to find a new word. "Just ... strange." He grinned. "Maybe you wouldn't be so spoiled."
