Summer Session 2, Scoobying Workshop #2, Afternoon 7/18/2006

[Roster]

There are drinks set out on a folding table near the unlit campfire. There's also a cardboard box at each end of the table, as yet unopened. Xander is standing in front of the table handing out cups.

"This one might go a lot easier than it did last time, considering what I'm gonna do today is make you talk, and after this weekend, I don't think anybody's gonna have a problem coming up with things to say. There's a catch to it, though, and it'll be a little different than when the last class played this game, too."

"Last week we looked at one specific job someone might have on a team; this time, we'll go with a skill that can be useful for anybody when you're trying to support your fellow Scooby-types -- or your flashy superpowered leader, if you have one. We'll switch back and forth between those two things each week for most of the workshop, and look at putting them together towards the end.

So what skill comes in really handy when you're trying to investigate a crime, stop the bad guys, rescue the princess or otherwise save the day for goodness, justice, puppies, and truth?

The ability to lie your ass off.

I know that sounds kind of contradicty, like 'jumbo shrimp' or 'bad pie,' and some of you guys may not be down with bending the truth until it squeaks, but the fact is that sometimes you might have to, at least for a while. You may need to cover for your friend with the secret identity, or your entire group that just cut class to go slay creepy guys with scalpels jello dragons, or yourself, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. And hey, maybe you'll get lucky enough not to need it -- but it's a skill you should have, just in case."

___

[Open like a thing I am not lying about being open! Posted early because as with last week, work, she shall be nuts, so my availability to ping in will also be limited and erratic.]

We'll have four laptops in our room. No need for withdrawal :)

Marie looked around for people to talk to.

She wasn't very good at lying.

Willow? Was not there. Because she was never there. And, if asked, she would say, "I am not here."

She waved to Xander.

Cally rubbed her neck and looked around for someone to partner up with.

[ooc: I'm on worky slow-play, as a warning.]

Bridge, on the other hand? Was totally there.

Angela took a seat near Marie. She wasn't great at lying, but she could try...

"I love this weather," she said as a preamble. "It's so nice and warm."

"I'm not used to weather like this at all," Marie replied. "It never gets this hot where I'm from."

She realized she'd never met this girl. Huh. This workshop was making her meet people in unusual ways.

"I don't remember your name," she added, which was technically a lie since she never knew it in the first place.

Angela almost said it was okay because she didn't know the other girl's name either, but then she remembered she was supposed to be lying.

"I'm, uh, Rayanne," she said, grabbing the first name that came into her head. "I'm new this summer so I'm kind of still meeting people."

Marie assumed that the other girl was lying because she thought she recognized her from baking, but since lying was the point, she replied, "I'm... Leigh. I've been here all year."

And Angela knew for sure that wasn't true, but...

"Yeah, I went to school back home in, um, Albuquerque last year. Nothing strange happened at all."

"Weird things happen all the time in Alaska where I'm from," Marie said.

And by now Angela was trying not to laugh.

"I've heard about that. The ... giant Alaskan ... attack lobsters. They sound really dangerous."

River walked up to her and smiled.

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Marie started giggling as well.

"Yes, the attack lobsters were scary," she said. "But not as scary as the trees that throw apples at you."

River grinned at Bridge, wondering if lying was possible when mind communicating.

"Wow, I've never even seen anything like that in a movie. But we grow giant venus fly traps back home," Angela volunteered. "If you even touch one, your whole arm could dissolve. It's really really awful."
