Summer Session 2, Scoobying Workshop #2, Afternoon 7/18/2006

[Roster]

There are drinks set out on a folding table near the unlit campfire. There's also a cardboard box at each end of the table, as yet unopened. Xander is standing in front of the table handing out cups.

"This one might go a lot easier than it did last time, considering what I'm gonna do today is make you talk, and after this weekend, I don't think anybody's gonna have a problem coming up with things to say. There's a catch to it, though, and it'll be a little different than when the last class played this game, too."

"Last week we looked at one specific job someone might have on a team; this time, we'll go with a skill that can be useful for anybody when you're trying to support your fellow Scooby-types -- or your flashy superpowered leader, if you have one. We'll switch back and forth between those two things each week for most of the workshop, and look at putting them together towards the end.

So what skill comes in really handy when you're trying to investigate a crime, stop the bad guys, rescue the princess or otherwise save the day for goodness, justice, puppies, and truth?

The ability to lie your ass off.

I know that sounds kind of contradicty, like 'jumbo shrimp' or 'bad pie,' and some of you guys may not be down with bending the truth until it squeaks, but the fact is that sometimes you might have to, at least for a while. You may need to cover for your friend with the secret identity, or your entire group that just cut class to go slay creepy guys with scalpels jello dragons, or yourself, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. And hey, maybe you'll get lucky enough not to need it -- but it's a skill you should have, just in case."

[Open like a thing I am not lying about being open! Posted early because as with last week, work, she shall be nuts, so my availability to ping in will also be limited and erratic.]

"They used to, but recently all you receive is a version of the home game and a sound beating. I have, however, slept with many a person here. Duo, Rory, Cally, Alec -- but who has yet to sleep with him? -- Anakin, several of the jello dragons, that pink rabbit, the magical locker, Earl the giraffe, that Parker girl... It's as though I can never get a decent day's rest here."

He pretended to look hungry. "I hear there's a chef on campus. Is the food any good?"

"It's excellent. Seriously. They do a chicken a l'orange that's to die for. You can hardly taste the snickerdoodles." Parker's grin was widening. "Really, I'm impressed by your amorous adventures. I've taken a vow of celibacy myself. You'd be amazed at the offers you get when people think you're not on the market. Sad. Tell me, Trudi, is that your natural hair color? And that Parker girl, I heard she's insane. What's your take on her?"

Hamlet primped his hair a bit. "Of course it is. My entire family is gifted with the bleached blonde hair dating all the way back to my Asian ancestors. As for that Parker girl, I heard that she was a very quiet, bookwormish sort of girl that stays quiet and never gets into trouble. Do you know if she's ever seen with that Hamlet sandwich student?"

"I've also hear that one of the courses this summer is centered around ... decepting? Pretending? Make-believing? Something of that nature. Have you heard of it?"

"It's lovely. And oh, that poor thing. I'm always touched when I hear about sad little shy people. However did you manage to interact with her?" Parker managed not to snicker *too* much, then said: "No, I don't believe she's ever around him. He hangs out with the Up With People movment, you know. Such a credit to the school."

Parker bit her lip, and said: "I don't believe I know the course you're speaking of. Perhaps it's for remedial children?"
