Writing Workshop - 7/4 - Journalism Classroom - Tuesday Morning

Chloe was sitting at the front of the room as everyone came in, decked out in her patriotic best. There was a plate of cookies next to her, with a little note telling everyone to take one when they signed in. Surely it was there in celebration of July 4th, and not to distract everyone from noticing her wicked grin of glee.

"I can't believe that we're at the end of the session already," Chloe remarked sadly. "But you guys have been a fantastic group, and because of that, we're going to do things a little differently today." Still grinning, she stood up and grabbed a sheet of paper off of the desk. "The topic for our final class here is romance, and rather than give you a handout, I figured I'd give you all an outright example."

With that, she launched into the story of the fair Princess Chlois, daughter of the wise ruler of Smallvilleland. Princess Chlois was betrothed to Prince Alexander of Metropolishire, but their union was filled with trouble from the start, in no small part because Alexander's father, King Lionel, was a magnificent bastard who was trying to kill King Gabriel and take over all of Smallvilleland for his own nefarious purposes. But there was also the fact that Chlois had another love, a boy named Clark, who worked on the land outside of the castle. Though he was a mere farmboy, he more than made up for it with passion and skill, and much nicer hair than Alexander. All was going fairly smoothly until the day Alexander came by the castle unannounced, and found Clark and Chlois locked together in a carnal position that could not be explained away using mundane terms...

At this point, Chloe stopped reading, and glanced back at the class with utterly no shame, thank you very much. "Your assignment for today? Finish the story, however you want. Does Alexander steal Chlois away? Does Chlois decide to have two men in bed space designed for one? Or perhaps Alexander realizes exactly what Chlois sees in Clark, and steals him away instead? Only you can say for sure."

[Posted early so those who won't be around have a chance to play.]

Kawalsky kept his head on the desk, face down, with his arms covering his head as Chloe read the story. His shoulders may have been shaking while he tried to keep the laughter quiet. After spending all weekend reading bad Wormhole X-Treme stories, this was just the final straw. He couldn't handle it anymore!

"Don't choke," Cameron whispered at Kawalsky.

Kawalsky tried to elbow Cam in response while keeping his head down.

Marie glanced over.

"You okay?" she asked.

He looked up and nodded, but he was red in the face from trying to keep himself from laughing.

Cameron was wondering who the hell named their child Chlois. Damn hippies.

Marie smiled at Cameron. "Hey! How are you? I haven't talked to you in a while."

"Yo, Marie," Cameron said with a small smile. "I'm good. I apparently have a knack for disappearing for a while. How've you been?"

Rory turned in a story about how Alexander left the kingdom, heartbroken, and found his way into the arms of Princess Rorita from the neighboring kingdom of Starshollowington. Rorita immediately fell head over heels in love with the dashing prince, and abandoned her own true loves, Sir Dean the Too-Good and Sir Jess the Crappy in order to move to Metropolishire and build several dozen libraries, where there would be much sexing.

Meanwhile, Chlois and Clark weren't to live happily ever after, as it seemed her castle was haunted and this problem could only be solved my the handsome and dashing Knights of Chesterwin, who banished evil demons and other supernatural elements. Chlois fell immediately in love with both of them, and as Clark cared for her, he convinced the good knights to stay in the kingdom. And so she and Clark lived happily forevermore with the Knights of Chesterwin at their, ahem, service.

Cameron's story took a more Shakespearian turn. Alexander challenged Clark to a duel to life an death. As Clark was just a farmboy, Alexander gave him three weeks to prepare for the battle while he kept Chlois locked up in the highest tower of his castle to prevent her from seeing Clark again.

Three weeks later, right after sunrise, Alexander and Clark met on the fields outside of the castle for their duel. From her one and only window, Chlois could see the fight. It was brutal and lasted until sunrise when finally Clark delivered an awesome blow to Alexander's shield and the prince went down. As Clark approached Alexander to give him the final blow, Alexander drew his dagger and cut him in the leg. Clark however spared Alexander's life and only asked that Chlois would be let free so they could be happy together. At the request, Alexander started laughing and dropped the dagger to the grass. He explained to Clark that he'd let Chlois go, but that the dagger had been poisoned and before sunrise the next day, Clark would be dead as there was no cure for the poison.

Clark took Chlois away from the castle. They spent their last night together and when sunrise came, Clark had died. Chlois buried him and then set off on a journey. No one ever saw her again. Alexander went mad with grief for his one true love and let himself be used by his father to do mean and ugly things.

Kawalsky turned in a story where Alexander and everyone else in Smallvilleland and Metropolishire were struck down and killed by a terrible plague that was unleashed by Alexander in retaliation for not getting his own way. Chlois and Clark were the only ones to survive and had to go at it like bunnies to repopulate.

Damn, I really want Marie to write a story where Chlois is rescued by Vanessa Saturn, but I just can't see my girl writing slash.
