Writing Workshop - 7/4 - Journalism Classroom - Tuesday Morning

Chloe was sitting at the front of the room as everyone came in, decked out in her patriotic best. There was a plate of cookies next to her, with a little note telling everyone to take one when they signed in. Surely it was there in celebration of July 4th, and not to distract everyone from noticing her wicked grin of glee.

"I can't believe that we're at the end of the session already," Chloe remarked sadly. "But you guys have been a fantastic group, and because of that, we're going to do things a little differently today." Still grinning, she stood up and grabbed a sheet of paper off of the desk. "The topic for our final class here is romance, and rather than give you a handout, I figured I'd give you all an outright example."

With that, she launched into the story of the fair Princess Chlois, daughter of the wise ruler of Smallvilleland. Princess Chlois was betrothed to Prince Alexander of Metropolishire, but their union was filled with trouble from the start, in no small part because Alexander's father, King Lionel, was a magnificent bastard who was trying to kill King Gabriel and take over all of Smallvilleland for his own nefarious purposes. But there was also the fact that Chlois had another love, a boy named Clark, who worked on the land outside of the castle. Though he was a mere farmboy, he more than made up for it with passion and skill, and much nicer hair than Alexander. All was going fairly smoothly until the day Alexander came by the castle unannounced, and found Clark and Chlois locked together in a carnal position that could not be explained away using mundane terms...

At this point, Chloe stopped reading, and glanced back at the class with utterly no shame, thank you very much. "Your assignment for today? Finish the story, however you want. Does Alexander steal Chlois away? Does Chlois decide to have two men in bed space designed for one? Or perhaps Alexander realizes exactly what Chlois sees in Clark, and steals him away instead? Only you can say for sure."

[Posted early so those who won't be around have a chance to play.]

Kawalsky kept his head on the desk, face down, with his arms covering his head as Chloe read the story. His shoulders may have been shaking while he tried to keep the laughter quiet. After spending all weekend reading bad Wormhole X-Treme stories, this was just the final straw. He couldn't handle it anymore!

"Don't choke," Cameron whispered at Kawalsky.

Kawalsky tried to elbow Cam in response while keeping his head down.

Marie glanced over.

"You okay?" she asked.

He looked up and nodded, but he was red in the face from trying to keep himself from laughing.

"What's so funny?" Marie asked, totally not getting the joke.

Kawalsky took a deep breath to calm himself. "There are people on the internet who write stuff. Like that. With inserting themselves into the story to be the hero or heroine and some of it is just SO BAD." He tried to compose himself. "This is one of those laugh-or-cry situations."

Marie giggled. "You really can find anything on the internet, can't you?" she asked.

Charlie sighed and nodded. "Some really funny stuff and some really, really, really, my-brain-will-never-be-the-same bad stuff."

"Too bad they don't put warning labels on those things, so you know what to avoid," Marie said.

"Sometimes they do and then I can't stop myself from clicking anyway just to see what the fuss is all about."

"Well, then, you have no one to blame but yourself if you read something that hurts your brain," Marie pointed out playfully.

"I know," Charlie replied with a dramatic sigh. "It's not as much fun when you don't have someone else to blame." He flashed a quick grin. "So how are you gonna end the story? Happily ever after? I'm thinking something with a plague."

"I haven't decided yet, but I'm pretty much a happily ever after kind of girl," Marie said thoughtfully.

[ooc: no worries! sleep is good. I'll be here when you wake up, I'm sure.]

"Happily ever afters are good," Charlie replied. "People deserve them after all the bad stuff happens."

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"That's very true," Marie agreed. "So what's new with you?" she asked. "I haven't talked to you since we had detention together."

"Not much. I slept through the jello dragons." He mock-pouted. "But Sam brought me back stuff from her Flight & Flying trip. There was a light sword." He grinned. "It makes whooshy sounds. How 'bout you?"

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I almost got slimed by a Jello dragon," Marie said. "And I had cheerleading practice and a sleepover. And yesterday I baked muffins in the fifth floor common room. Oh, and I'm going to play piano in the talent show on Friday."

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Talent show! I need to do something for that. What kind of muffins? I'm a big blueberry fan."

"I still have to decide what I'm going to play," Marie said. "Conner and I are going to go to Empire tomorrow for ideas."

She grinned. "There were blueberry, banana nut, and some other handwavy kind."

"Mmm blueberry. I can't play an instrument, so I'll probably go for something with juggling or something funny if I can think of anything. Hey, what floor are you on?"

Re: Work on Your Stories/Talk Amongst Yourselves (7/4)

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I look forward to seeing whatever you come up with," Marie grinned. "I'm on the fifth floor, you?"

Re: Work on Your Stories/Talk Amongst Yourselves (7/4)

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Second floor. Best floor in the dorms. But all this talk of blueberries has me wanting to make pancakes, so next time I do I can come get you?"

Re: Work on Your Stories/Talk Amongst Yourselves (7/4)

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Why is the second floor the best?" Marie asked. "And definitely come get me if you cook. I'm in 509 with Willow."

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-05 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Second floor is best because I'm there," he grinned. "And we have a big TV in the common room. That's pretty cool." Charlie grabbed a pen and wrote 'Marie, 509' on his hand. "Blueberry pancakes this week for sure." He tapped the pen on the desk. "I'd better write something huh?"
