Danger Shop - Detention [6/24]

As the students enter, the Danger Shop appears to be a mostly empty room with a half circle of chairs in the middle.

The focal point of the half circle is a large white board which has a list of names on one half. The other half is covered at the moment.

Belthazor
Marie D'Ancanto
Timothy Desmond
Walter Dornez
Tyler Durden
Kaylee Fry
Phoebe Halliwell
Charles Kawalsky
Jamie Madrox
Setsuna Sakurazaki
Nadia Santos
Stark

Once everyone has arrived, Veronica begins briefing them.

"I don't know what you guys did to earn detention today and frankly, I don't care. Today we're going to solve a mystery and you're going to put someone else's well being before for your own."

She uncovers the other half of the board, which has a list of information about a missing girl, including a physical description.

"The girls' parents believe she has run off with her boyfriend and don't want to involve the authorities. It's your job to find her."

Walter grabs a standard diner burger and sits down with the girl he's never met before. "I'm Walter. Is this your first time in detention?"

"Sakurazaki," she says with a little bit of a yawn. "And,yes it is."

"Ah, you're the person whose name almost no one on radio can pronounce." He said her name, just to be sure he got it right, "Sakurazaki. A pleasure to meet you, even if these aren't the best of circumstances."

Sakurazaki grins a little at the comment about radio; she'd gotten used to the modifications. "It is a little bit of a mouthful. You can call me Setsuna if you'd like, if it's easier; I don't really mind so much anymore."

"Sakurazaki is not particularly difficult," Walter said, shaking his head. "People just don't pay enough attention to detail. How is your Fandom experience so far?"

The grin stays. She likes how he put that. "I've been enjoying it immensely so far. This...is a little strange, but I was lucky enough to have a warning last night and a white tea slurpee this morning, so I guess even this hasn't been too bad. I do feel like I'm wasting some valuable training time, though."

"What sort of training are you missing?" Walter asked curiously. "I've been learning since I got here that almost anything you do here can be a kind of training."

Sakurazaki chuckles slightly. "Well, I did some detective-like work back in Japan for a while, but this is definately low, low key stuff compared to what I was doing there. I was hoping to spend this afternoon in the gym; I'd been training so much with my sword last week that my body put me out of commission yesterday, so I have lost time to make up for."

"Well, Veronica does have to take into account all skill levels," Walter said in their "teacher's" defense.

In reference to her sword comment, Walter cocked his head. His shoulders and hands were definitely making themselves felt today, but he was still functional. "Were you out of practice, or did you forget to pace yourself?"

Sakurazaki's shoulders slump a little, blossom of a blush on her face. "A little of both, actually. I haven't had my sword until just this week, because until just this week, we couldn't do live steel training. But now that we can, after so long of not being able to train with her, I guess I got a little carried away and forgot that it's been over a month since I've had any actual swordwork training. And I went all out. I don't see the point of not."

Walter could definitely relate to that, but... "But you can't fight if you've pushed yourself to exhaustion," he pointed out gently. "And enemies wait until you're weakened, if they're smart enemies."

Sakurazaki frowns slightly; he sounded like Peter. Except for the enemies part. But Sakurazaki nods gravely, taking a sip of her drink. "It's a mistake I plan not to make again, to be sure."

"I've done it in my own way, so I'm mostly repeating good advice I've had from others," Walter said with a shrug, then grinned. "Not that I always listen."

Sakurazaki does what she can to make her smile seem particularly aloof. "I think this is just that hard spot right before it gets easy again, anyway."

"Good luck with it, then. And what is it that you do at home, if you don't mind my asking?"

"I work for the Kansai Magic Association in Japan," she says with a slight shrug; she's had so much trouble remember who knows what that she figures it doesn't really hurt to reveal that much. Just as long as she doesn't go into further detail. "Mostly protection work. I've been trained in the Shinmei Ryuu, and was recruited to work for them when I was about five."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's an even earlier start than mine," Walter commented, raising his eyebrows. "I was," he paused and put a peculiar emphasis on the next word, "recruited when I was ten, and everyone here thinks that's early."

He tilted his head and asked, "What is a Shinmei Ryuu? Did I say that right?"

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Sakurazaki nods, amused smile on her face. "Yes, that's correct. It's one of the many sword training schools of Japan. Specializing in nodachi and wind attacks." There's a small swell of pride in her chest.

Walter's emphasis on "recruited" makes her slightly reluctant to ask. She knew how she didn't like people pressing into her business too much, but it was proper conversation ettiquitte to ask questions as well as answer them. So she asks. "What sort of work were you recruited into?"

"I work for an organization that hunts and destroys vampires," Walter answered, no longer expecting people to immediately tell him he's a nutter.

Her head bobs with understanding. Pretty average fare, then. Average for what she was accustomed to, anyway. "I see," she says idly.

"What is a wind attack? I assume you're not meaning that you talk until people are bored to death." Walter adds a grin to that to indicate he is joking.

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a definate chuckle, although, really, sometimes she probably could do that. "We use a series of attacks that use wind to create a more powerful effect. It's kind of like magic, but it's not magic. Not really, anyway. It's more about using energy and creating a windlike effect with it." She ponders that; it doesn't seem to explain it very well. "For example, one of the simplist of Shinmei Ryuu techniques involves swinging a sword and having a gust of wind follow. As you learn more techniques, the gusts become more powerful, more controlled, more damaging."

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can you do that?" Walter asked with interest, leaning forward slightly. "I'd be very interested to see it." He was also quite interested to know how his wires would fare against something like that.

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can," she nods, grinning a bit proudly. "I'll be starting to practise some of the more complicated techniques once Alphonse and I get around to constructing the stone barrier walls down in the salle. They're dangerous techniques, not really for spectators, but, if you were interested, I'm sure a peek in once or twice wouldn't hurt anything. You may have to suffer to help with rock-collecting duty afterwards, though."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Walter shrugged off concerns about rock collecting. Work wasn't a problem. "If the main risk is from flying debris, you'd actually be providing me a chance to practice. If the risk is something else, I'd still be interested in seeing it."
