Danger Shop - Detention [6/24]

As the students enter, the Danger Shop appears to be a mostly empty room with a half circle of chairs in the middle.

The focal point of the half circle is a large white board which has a list of names on one half. The other half is covered at the moment.

Belthazor
Marie D'Ancanto
Timothy Desmond
Walter Dornez
Tyler Durden
Kaylee Fry
Phoebe Halliwell
Charles Kawalsky
Jamie Madrox
Setsuna Sakurazaki
Nadia Santos
Stark

Once everyone has arrived, Veronica begins briefing them.

"I don't know what you guys did to earn detention today and frankly, I don't care. Today we're going to solve a mystery and you're going to put someone else's well being before for your own."

She uncovers the other half of the board, which has a list of information about a missing girl, including a physical description.

"The girls' parents believe she has run off with her boyfriend and don't want to involve the authorities. It's your job to find her."

There's a definate chuckle, although, really, sometimes she probably could do that. "We use a series of attacks that use wind to create a more powerful effect. It's kind of like magic, but it's not magic. Not really, anyway. It's more about using energy and creating a windlike effect with it." She ponders that; it doesn't seem to explain it very well. "For example, one of the simplist of Shinmei Ryuu techniques involves swinging a sword and having a gust of wind follow. As you learn more techniques, the gusts become more powerful, more controlled, more damaging."

"Can you do that?" Walter asked with interest, leaning forward slightly. "I'd be very interested to see it." He was also quite interested to know how his wires would fare against something like that.

"I can," she nods, grinning a bit proudly. "I'll be starting to practise some of the more complicated techniques once Alphonse and I get around to constructing the stone barrier walls down in the salle. They're dangerous techniques, not really for spectators, but, if you were interested, I'm sure a peek in once or twice wouldn't hurt anything. You may have to suffer to help with rock-collecting duty afterwards, though."

Walter shrugged off concerns about rock collecting. Work wasn't a problem. "If the main risk is from flying debris, you'd actually be providing me a chance to practice. If the risk is something else, I'd still be interested in seeing it."

Her head tilts. "How do flying debris work into your practising?"

Walter held up a hand and let wires drop from the rings he wore. "I usually go to the junkyard to work on the more brute force aspect of using these."

A flick of his fingers made the wires disappear again. "I use them for more delicate work all the time, but no one shoots at me here," he ruthlessly suppressed the memory the one exception to that, "so I don't get as much work in as I need to deal with bullets, shrapnel, and similar dangers."

Sakurazaki is obviously quite fascinated, as she's now the one leaning forward, dark eyes widened. "The junkyard, you say?" The wheels in her head are obviously turning on that one, until she remembers that Yuunagi can't leave the weapon locker except when she's training in the salle, and she sighs lightly, falling back against her chair a little. It was a nice thought, anyway.

"We'd have to be extremely careful. Safety is key." She recites that second part as if it's engrained in her brain. "But it's obvious that you know how to use your weapon and I know how to use mine. If you ever want to come down to the salle and practise off of my techniques, I think that'd be really great. It has a sort of teamwork feel to it, you know? And, besides, I'd love to see how those work as well. A very unique weapon."

She's back to leaning forward, a plotting grin on her face. "Hey, what would you think about possibly providing an interview for my documentary, Walter?"

"That sounds brilliant. Just let me know when you're practicing and we'll set something up."

He raised his eyebrows at the plotting grin. "What sort of documentary are you doing?"

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

"I intend to be down there every afternoon after workshops; makes it a pretty easy schedual."

"And it's about weapons. I've been eagerly trying to find some people who use rare weapons. I've got swords and possibly some guns, which is pretty standard fare, but wires are definately unique. But if you're not interested in an interview, that's fine. I would like at least a weapons demonstration, though. They sound too good not to provide any good footage. Perhaps we could even get some film together on you and I working together." Her eyes shine a little; if it ends up working out like she pictures it in her head, it would be some amazing footage. If anything, she can just have her documentary be pretty shiny weapons demonstrations and call that good.

Hell, she'd watch that any day.

"I can help you with that. I just didn't want to get involved in any more discussions of potential inequalities here at the school."

Her head tilts slightly, a blank look on her face momentarily. "Um, nope. Just a lot of talk about weapons." Sakurazaki gives an assuring nod.

"Certainly, then. I'd be happy to help you out. What do you want? A demonstration, or just an interview, or both? It's too bad you missed out yesterday, we were jumping off the roof."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Both would be wonderful. The more material I have, the better."

Another head tilt. "Jumping off the roof?"

"Oh yes. We jump and I use my wires to control our falls. It's fun, and other than the fact that Seras got dizzy from a spin, quite safe."

Yes, Walter has an interesting definition of "safe."

At first, Sakurazaki's just grinning at the concept. Jumping off the roof, eh? Using trick wires. Did she have something she could show them.

"That's amazing," she says, chuckling lightly. "Next time you guys go to that, you'll have to invite me."

"I've heard on the radio that there are other students who can do it without the wires, but I haven't seen it myself." He rolled his shoulders a little, still stiff, but loosening up. "But it's good exercise. Jump four times, climb back up seven stories. No one says practice has to be dull."

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can do it without the wires." Despite the fact that she's wondering why the hell she's telling Walter this, Sakurazaki is smiling in a rather self-satisfied way. It was absolutely....absolutely insane!...that she was thinking about doing this, but yet here she was. She blamed the talk of swords; her confidence had been boosted up and now it didn't want to leave her all of a sudden.

"How do you do it?" Walter asked. "Are you a witch? I've met a few here."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, not a witch." Although she might as well have said she was, for all the trouble she was getting herself into. She tries to keep herself calm by reminding herself that, around here, things like that wasn't going to matter. Maybe she was actually starting to believe that. Maybe that's why she was doing it. "I'll just have to show you one of these times."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Walter grinned. "I look forward to seeing it. I have learned so much since coming here. Most of it not on the formal class list."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
She chuckles lightly. "I never really found the formal education stuff to ever be very useful for anything, anyway."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"It has its uses. The formal classes here have more practical application than they do at most schools. At least for the sort of lives many of us lead."

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"This is true," she says with a grin. "I mean, hell, even the detention here is practical. I was half expecting to be sitting in seiza all day." There's a slight weathered look on her face at the mention of it.

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] walter-n-wires.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"What's that? Is it better or worse than my mentor's idea of punishment, which this week meant cleaning the kitchen with a toothbrush?"

Re: Lunch - Detention [6/24]

[identity profile] bound2blade.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
An eyebrow arches. "If you ask me, seiza is better. It's a traditional form of punishment for Japanese students. It technically means 'correct sitting,' and misbehaviour is punished by making students sit with their legs tucked under them like so," she shifts in her chair to demonstrate, assuming the position, "for several hours, and nothing more. It doesn't bother me so much because I'm used to meditating like this, but it can be hellish for someone not so accoustomed to it."
