First Aid, 5/30, Session 2

Elliot waited for the class to assemble and then began her lesson. A variety of handouts described the conditions she named.

"Hey. You guys did great in a tough situation last week. I was really impressed by the emergency management skills you showed."

"This week, we're getting into the nitty-gritty of emergencies affecting the respiratory system, which is how you breathe. You need to breathe so your body can convert oxygen in the air into the oxygen that fuels your body. The most common emergencies involving breathing are choking and near-drowning, but people may also stop breathing because of allergies or asthma. And then there's hyperventilation, which is usually psychosomatic. Not fun, but psychosomatic. About all you can do to stop that is try to take deep breaths."

"Today, I'm going to have you practice the Heimlich Maneuver and rescue breathing. Heimlich hurts like a bitch if you do it right -- seriously, you need to squeeze so hard you think you might break the person's ribs. So practice it on the danger-shop generated people in that room. If you know how to do it on an adult, try it on one of the babies or pregnant women."

"After that, pair up and go practice rescue breathing. You can make your own pairs for that. And, guys, there's nothing gay about it, even if you are afraid of boykissy."

"Oh, and one more thing? Last week, I didn't really do introductions, but I probably should. Tell us your name, age, any experience you have with first aid, and if there's anything weird about your physiology that I might want to know for this workshop. If you aren't comfortable saying it out loud, come see me after the session."

"And finally, the rules; one absence is totally fine. Two unexcused absences, and you get detention. So show up."

"That's it, guys. Go for it."

[OOC: OCD's up. Pretend I used the introductions thread instead of sign-in on purpose. We have 15 people in this class -- if anyone is hanging on the rescue breathing as of tomorrow morning, they'll get to work with either Elliot or one of the multipliers. Also? If your character has a truly major problem with the rescue breathing exercise, please let me know in the OOC thread.]

"Hi," Greg said. "Please to not be breaking me."

Parker grinned evilly. "You go first. That way, if you need to be broken, I'll be able to give you rescue breathing. Works?"

"Um, okay. You need to lie down, I guess," Greg said nervously and not at all glancing over at Isabel and hating Dawn just a little bit.

Parker caught the glance, and her eyes lit up. Hmmmm. She decided to only mess with Greggie a little bit.

"Got it. Lying down. Ready to be rescued." Parker lay down and closed her eyes. Then popped them open suddenly. "Tell me you're not going to need a breath mint, dinner, or drinks for this."

"Nooooooo," Greg said, staring and kneeling. "Remember what I said about wanting to be able to have kids someday? I have many, many reasons for not getting, um, fresh with you."

"I'll bet," Parker drawled, then folded her hands demurely over her abdomen. "Okay. Ready to be rescued." She shot a glance over toward Isabel, to see if she was watching them. "Don't worry. I won't grade you. Too much."

Isabel might have been glancing over occasionally. Not that she was concerned or anything. She was just checking out the rest of the class. Really....

"No tongue," he told Parker, oblivious to Isabel, before gently pressing his mouth over hers and breathing as instructed.

Parker was having a hard time not giggling. But she didn't move, just watched Greg in wide-eyed amusement, almost going cross-eyed. "Nice lips," she said at one pause.

"Thanks," he muttered. "Feel free to pass that recommendation on. My turn yet?"

Re: Rescue breathing

"Sure. Lie down." Parker's mouth twitched. "I'll be gentle. I swear."

Re: Rescue breathing

Greg flung himself onto the floor, squeezing his eyes shut. "Give me your worst."

"Do not tempt me, Greggie." She pinched his nose shut, turned her head to the side, took a breathe, and slowly blew it into his mouth. She did this two more times, then grinned down at him, still holding his nose. "So. Are you looking at Isabel, or Dawn?"

"Isabel," he said. "Asked her out, yay. Can I habe by nodse back?"

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Parker said, practicing one more slow breath, then letting go of his nose and patting him on the stomach. "And yay. And if you hurt her, well. She probably won't kill you. But I'll help whoever does. But then I'll make sure funeral is really pretty, Greggie. Okay?"

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"...'kay," he agreed, staring at her. "Won't hurt her. Scout's honor."

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker grinned. "Don't worry. I'll be asking her what her intentions toward you are, as well. If she's toying with you for her own amusement-- not that Isabel is capable of that-- I'll find you another nice alien girl to date. They're not in short supply around here."

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I only want the one," he told her. "And I'll treat her like a princess, like she deserves. So no worries. Plus it's only one date, dude. I have no idea what's happening."

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't call me dude. That's a Bridgey thing." Parker cocked her head. "Just... be nice? I know you are, just-- Isabel's not shy, but she's really cautious. Don't make her sorry she even said yes to the date. That's all I ask."

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you seriously think I want to blow my chance on this?" Greg asked. "I'll be good. Promise."

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker gave him a bright grin. "Goooooood Greggie. We should get you a cookie."

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't need a cookie," Greg said with a doofy smile. "What I've got is enough. Are we done?"

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker snickered. "You're finished, that's for sure. Yeah, we're done."

Re: Rescue breathing

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Greg rolled his eyes at her retreating back.

Funny how Isabel just happened to wander by then. "Hi! Nice radio broadcast."
