Arts & Crafts Workshop #2, Dining Hall, 05.29.06, Afternoon

[OOC: How did you spend your Memorial Day? By scrapbooking and getting lei'd in Tick's class. I'm here all day for once, yay! Hence the slacking and not getting this posted sooner.]

When everyone had assembled in the dining hall, The Tick smiled and greeted them. "Hello, campers! I don't know if you've had a chance to see the schedule for Friday events yet, but in honor of the Luau that will be happening this week, we'll be making leis!"

"On each of your tables, you should find instructions, forty-five inch strings of dental floss, a large sewing needle, and up here at the front is a large selection of medium-size flowers to use. When you're done making your lei, please display it in on the front table here. I'll go ahead and have the dining staff store them in a refrigerator and if you want your lei for Friday, let you can handwavily retrieve them then."

"You got a good start with your scrapbooks last week. This week, I want you to start detailing it with text. Whether you want to write about your experiences over the past week, or just use random words to express your feelings. Think about how you want to use them. Up at the front table we have colored pens, markers, old magazines, scissors, and gluesticks. Get creative!"

"In a couple weeks, the Friday event will be an Art Fair. I want everyone here to have something in it, so please think about what you can do that you would want to display for the school to see."

Jaye, yes, is going to have another giggle fit in class. She's better than last week, though, and her lei is going to be pretty. She might wear it to girlkissy later. Because it's funny.

Sakurazaki isn't quite sure what the giggling is about, but she does know that isn't exactly happy about the endevour. Something about making a lei makes her nervous. Since they're real leis and not some cheap plastic, she isn't even going to be able to give it Ojou-sama, which is where she planned on dumping all these crafts since she's making her take it.

Picking mostly red, blue, and purple flowers, Sakurazaki takes a deep breath, focuses her chi, and put all her energy into delicately threading the flowers. She is very focused, tongue slightly darting out as she concentrates, mostly unaware of anything else, because she knows that the moment she gets distracted, she'll end up with a needle through her fingers or something.

Kaylee begins working on what she hopes will be a perfect, shiny lei. She picks mostly pink and purple flowers.

Tempe set to work on her lei. She took the piece of dental floss and threaded it through the needle. She grabbed flowers of all the colors of the rainbow and began threading them onto the dental floss.

When she was done, she tied off the floss and adjusted the flowers.

She patted it lovingly. As such, some of the glitter from her glitter attack yesterday, which still covered her quite nicely, transferred to the flowers.

The result? A pretty rainbow lei, with glitter accents.

Luna pulled some of the floss through the eye of her needle and set to work, selecting flowers as she went, seemingly at random.

The further she gets along, it becomes clear that her crafting project is no where near lei shaped.

Bridge starts to work on his lei. Strangely, most of the flowers seem to be of the same colour. Wonder what that could be?

Seras threaded found some white flowers which she quite liked the shape of and some darkish green leaves to complement them.

She threaded her needle and set to work.

About five minutes in to her work, she decided that she was going to make one of those shorter leis that you wore on your head.

Bloody needle. Ow.

Seras foraged on, muffling her curses. Where was a thimble when you needed one?

Hamlet grabs a handful of dark coloured flowers and started gradually sowing them into a lei. If he was going to be forced to wear a lei, it would at least match with the rest of his black wardrobe.

Maia decided on a mixture of pink and white flowers for her lei. Carefully tying a knot after each flower she added Maia finished up and headed over to the scrapbook table

Sakura's lei is pink. To the point of possible eye-bleeding.

There's not much more to be said about it.

Again, a frown. This wasn't a very good day for arts and crafts, it seemed. She'd just spent the entire weekend getting rid of all her words for the past week. If there were any. She can only seem to think in pictures right now.

She wishes she had a paintbrush, but the markers work well enough for Japanese characters. If she's getting any of those words out, it's going to at least be in a language that hardly anyone around her can read.

Kaylee uses pretty colors, pink and purple again, to decorate her scrapbook with text. She takes markers and begins adding words like shiny and serenity. Chinese characters are featured prominently as well.

Jaye's scrapbook involves glitter. Lots and lots of glitter. It's really almost obscene.

Tempe flipped through the pages of her half-created scrapbook, mentally figuring out what could go on each page.

She had a couple of pictures that she'd *handwavily* taken, which she pasted in on the appropriate pages.

She grabbed some pretty pens, and set to work on writing accurate descriptions of said pictures. She also glued some words that she'd cut out from magazines at cool, artsy angles.

All in all, these first few pages looked great. She had a ways to go, but at least it was a start.

Having finished with her... ummmmm, lei... Luna sat amazingly still for a few moments, staring out the window like a statue turned the wrong way.

Then she let out a meery laugh and employed the colored pens in the task of recording words, with gusto.

Had anyone looked closely, he or she would have seen words like blibbering, twinkling, fluwilba, and raspenellia written down artistically in beautiful colors.

Bridge grabs a green marker and starts to work on his scrapbook. Like a few of the others, not all of his words are in English. Of course, unlike them, they're not in any Earth-based language.

Seras spent her scrapbooking time flipping through magazines, trying to find pictures that caught her eye.

She ripped them out of the magazines using a ruler and set them aside to futz with when she got back to her cabin.

After having learned firsthand about Professor The Tick's great skill at scrapbooking last week, Hamlet's a little daunted about his own scrapbook. He ends up writing short notes and short bits of verse next to his pictures.

Using black and gold Maia embellished the cover she had made last week with the text

Maia's Scrapbook Summer 2006

On the inside pages she had added little curlycues, dots and general happy looking little flourishes that would fit whatever she decided to fill it with.

The lei is pretty good for being Sakurazaki's first time. She's only bleeding a little bit from all the pokes.

Red, purple, and blue flowers, evenly placed in a repeating order. She thinks it looks gaudy, and that it needed some white, but she was feeling an adversion to that colour right now.

I fear for your sanity worse than I did last night.
