Writing Workshop - 5/23 - Journalism Classroom - Tuesday Morning

Chloe greeted each of the students as they ~~followed the handwavied instructions and~~ came into the Journalism classroom. Anyone who had been in here during the last semester might notice that all traces of Rita had been removed; the room had definitely become Chloe's domain.

"Good morning," she said brightly, distributing a syllabus to everyone. "Welcome to the writing workshop. For anyone I haven't met extensively yet, I'm Chloe Sullivan. Please, please call me Chloe, because any of that 'Ms. Sullivan' stuff is just going to remind me that I'm old and I have to leave this place at the end of the summer."

She gave everyone a smile and turned around to address them fully. "So, the basic idea of this workshop is to give you all a chance to experiment with different writing styles that are out there. We're going to start with non-fictional styles, and then move into some of the more entertaining fictional forms. I will warn you, I'm probably going to be doing some heavy pimping of the school newspaper, because it's kind of my baby, and it needs good people to take care of it next year. Those of you who were ~~my minions~~ part of the staff should know what I can get like." Chloe smirked.

"I figured the best way to start would be to talk about writing biographies," Chloe said, outlining a few of the characteristics of this style on the board. "This is also my sneaky way of making you all talk to each other on the first day. I've assigned each of you into a pair, and what I want you to do is get together with your partner, talk a little bit about yourselves, and then give me a minimum of 50 words on what you learned."

"Don't worry about it," Cameron waved it off. "I've been good. Went to visit my folks for a couple of days and now I'm back to follow all the wrong workshops."

"Ah, so that's why I haven't seen you around lately," Marie said. "Did you have a nice visit? And what do you mean by wrong workshops?"

"That and the dorms have been crazy with so many newbies, I've gone into hiding," he grinned. "But it was good. And I'm not sure what's up with the workshops, I never signed up for this or photography and yet I somehow ended up in them. I think it might be a conspiracy."

~~Never underestimate the power of the snarky blondes.~~ "That's odd. Are they your only two workshops?" Marie asked.

"No, at least my sign ups for Flight and Wilderness Survival didn't get messed with," he shook his head and looked at their assignment. "I'll survive. So let's talk about you."

"Okay," Marie said with a shrug. She glanced over the assignment sheet. "What do you wanna know?"

"Well, I know you live in the South and I think you mentioned your parents. I also know you'd like to visit Alaska because it's exotic," he considered it. "Why did you come to Fandom?"

"My parents wanted me to have a unique educational experience," Marie said with a slight chuckle. "And I wanted to experience life outside of Mississippi."

Elizabeth moved her chair across to them, and smiled. "Hi, you must be Marie," she said. "Hey, Cam."

"Yo, Liz." Cameron greeted.

"How's things with you?"

"Good," he smiled. "Marie was just telling us about herself."

"Okay," Elizabeth pulled out her PDA and poised the stylus over it. "I'm all ears."

"Well, Cam already knows that I'm from Mississippi," Marie began. "And my dream vacation is to travel across Canada to Alaska. Back home, I was a cheerleader and I took ballet and piano lessons. I have a big family, but I'm an only child."

She flushed slightly. "Okay, one of you go next."

Cameron grinned and motioned at Liz, "Ladies first."

Elizabeth thought for a moment. "Okay, I was born in Hartford, Connecticut. I'm the youngest of the family with three older brothers. My grandmother was Russian and lived with us when I was smaller, so I grew up speaking both English and Russian. Uh, I'm looking at Harvard once I graduate where I'm probably going to major in poli-sci."

She turned to Cameron, grinning. "That good enough?"

"It is to me," he shrugged. "I was born in Memphis, Tennessee. I have a younger sister, Emily, and a dog called Ray. My dad used to be a test pilot for the USAF and when I get out of here, I'll going to the USAF Academy to become a pilot too."

"Oh, so that's why you were so excited about getting in to the flight workshop," Marie said with a grin.

"Yep, Anakin organised flight club during the school year and it was always fun," he explained and titled his head. "Why did you sign up for a writing workshop?"

Marie shrugged. "I always liked my English classes and I thought writing sounded like fun."

She grinned. "A flight club? Did you actually get to fly planes?"

Cameron shook his head. "Nope, but it did come close. Anakin has some sort of flight simulator where you can fly all sorts of planes or spacecrafts. It's pretty cool and it feels real, too. You should ask him if you can have a go," he explained enthusiastically and would probably be able to go on for a few hours.

"I've never actually been on a plane," Marie confessed. "We never took any vacations that were far enough away to fly. And I took the train to come here."

"That's a pretty long way," he tilted his head as he considered it. "Would you like to? You're not scared of heights or anything?"

ELizabeth grinned. "Yep. Nice to meet you too."
