Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, June 26, 202

There was an ice skating rink set up in the center of the park, which would be nice of a day like today if center ice hadn't been ominously filled with plastic ball pit balls. There were four laundry baskets spread out equally around the circle of balls, four scooters--red, yellow, blue, and green--next to the baskets, and most disturbingly of all...four hippo costumes.

Anakin, what have you wrought?

"We're playing Hungry Hungry Hippos," Anakin announced through the unnecessary megaphone. "And by we I mean you. Listen for your names!"

"You only need to wear the costume while you're retrieving the balls!" Anakin announced like that made it better. He pointed to the boring red, blue, green, and yellow t-shirts next to him. "Just wear the t-shirts for everything else."

Well, this should be a thing.

Play Hungry Hungry Hippos!

There will be four rounds! The first player gets belly side down on the scooter and holds the laundry basket while player two pushes them by the legs. Race out and back to the middle of the ice, snagging as many balls as you can in two minutes. Then player two gets on the scooter and the whole thing repeats!

Don had limped (Because he had a bad leg! Totally the only reason, he would insist, like a liar who lied!) his way to the park before he realized...

"Oh, no. Oh, no, it's not Tuesday, is it?"

There was also definitely no reason to examine why he'd lost a day in there somehow.

Maybe he wouldn't be called!

On the one hand, Stewart did like the prospect of getting on the ice.

On the other hand....hippo costume.

On the...third?...hand...he did actually find it very generous and acceptable that only the person receiving the balls would be wearing the hippo costume. It also made sense from a narrative standpoint, so he couldn't really even be that annoyed or irritated by it. Honestly, if you asked him, it was an elegant solution, a very good balance between the absurd and the reasonable.

His bar on such things was very low, to be honest.

Lydia had just been out for a walk in her new dress! She really didn't deserve this!

On the bright side, given the new dress, at least this didn't seem terribly messy? And the red shirt she would be expected to wear for much of the activity didn't clash too terribly with the pink of her dress...

Vi should really just stop coming to the park at all during summer. Especially when her shoulder had had a chance to seize up overnight make its complaints known about just how hard she'd pushed it yesterday.
