Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, June 26, 202

There was an ice skating rink set up in the center of the park, which would be nice of a day like today if center ice hadn't been ominously filled with plastic ball pit balls. There were four laundry baskets spread out equally around the circle of balls, four scooters--red, yellow, blue, and green--next to the baskets, and most disturbingly of all...four hippo costumes.

Anakin, what have you wrought?

"We're playing Hungry Hungry Hippos," Anakin announced through the unnecessary megaphone. "And by we I mean you. Listen for your names!"

"You only need to wear the costume while you're retrieving the balls!" Anakin announced like that made it better. He pointed to the boring red, blue, green, and yellow t-shirts next to him. "Just wear the t-shirts for everything else."

A felt being stuffed inside a felt costume! Sure! "Meep meep meep!" Beaker said, waiting for Amaya.

Amaya was used to pushing around the Crumbler (and up and down stairs to boot!) so pushing around Beaker in a hippo costume? No sweat at all!

"Alright, Beaker," she said, giving her gloves a tug and then getting into position, "let's get this...show on the....ice! And, listen, no exploding unless we're really desperately losing or it'll be really funny, got it? And try to warn me before you do, okay?"

"You got this, buddy!" Amaya said encouragingly, as she did her best to compensate for just how off she was about thinking that maneuvering the Crumbler would translate into maneuvering the much smaller, much lighter, much more chaotic Beaker. "Hold onto that basket like your life depends on it!"

Could Vi just lie there on the ice, without the costume and scooter and game happening around her? That seemed like a much better idea right now.

Stewart was curling his lip slightly, because him getting ready to push meant that he was one round closer to being pushed. "Well," he said, "guess we'd better make the most of it..."

Though if his teammate did, in fact, choose to do little more than wallow on the ice, he would...certainly not complain, although they might run into the issue of, you know, everyone else sliding around the ice catching them in their paths as well as balls....

They were against Beaker this round, so it was hardly like they'd be the most chaotic pair even if Vi did just lie there.

She belly-flopped onto the scooter and held her basket close to the ice in the hopes balls would just go in there with a minimum of effort on her part.

"Yeah, no," Steph said, flopping half blindly onto the sled with her hippo mask askew. "Some things really do not need to be adapted into LARP form."

"I'd say yes but we all know that's a lie," Steph replied, shrugging as best she could in the ridiculous costume. "I am mentally braced for the humiliation, so close enough?"

She was rather worried she'd fall on the ice.

The school's liability insurance must be amazing.

The secret was probably that there was no insurance on this island for anything.

"I'll do my best not to fall while pushing you. That is, unfortunately, the best I can offer."

Either that or Anakin and Zoe were too intimidating for adjusters to argue with.

"That is literally as much as I would ask for." Steph tried to get a better grip on her basket, and the hippo mask fell down into her eyes again. She sighed.

"I will try not to accidentally yeet the basket at your head. I make no promises about getting any balls into it."
