Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, June 26, 202

There was an ice skating rink set up in the center of the park, which would be nice of a day like today if center ice hadn't been ominously filled with plastic ball pit balls. There were four laundry baskets spread out equally around the circle of balls, four scooters--red, yellow, blue, and green--next to the baskets, and most disturbingly of all...four hippo costumes.

Anakin, what have you wrought?

"We're playing Hungry Hungry Hippos," Anakin announced through the unnecessary megaphone. "And by we I mean you. Listen for your names!"

"You only need to wear the costume while you're retrieving the balls!" Anakin announced like that made it better. He pointed to the boring red, blue, green, and yellow t-shirts next to him. "Just wear the t-shirts for everything else."

Kamala was pumped up and ready to go. She flopped down on the scooter and kicked her legs in anticipation. "LET'S GO!"

Cara was not pumped. However, due to reasons she would not be going into, Cara was remarkably adept on the ice when she wasn't lying on a scooter being pushed about by a muppet.

Kamala's skill with a laundry basket was not to be denied, scooping up balls left and ride.

"Push me to victory!"

C'mon Cara! Don't you want a meaningless win?

Well, at least after so many rounds, Eleanor felt....vaguely more confident about what was going on! While in a hippo suit.

"Alright," she said, "I guess I'm ready?"

Way to sound nice and confident about that, Zarrin.

She was, however, definitely reminding herself that she might not do well at pretend Hungry, Hungry Hippos, but, oh, man, if this were real...

It wasn't nearly as confidence-boosting as she hoped it would be.

"Is there really that much pressure to win?" asked Eleanor, voice slightly echoing inside the hippo head of her costume.

Not that she wouldn't try, of course! But, you know, as far as stakes went...

"I'm ready," she said, her muffled voice much more resolute, gripping her basket tight. "Let's get those balls."

Was Eleanor a little tempted, once they started going, to open her mouth a little and sort of urge the balls closer to her basket?

No. Absolutely not. Even if she didn't have a ridiculous hippo head on right now, this was not even remotely important enough to call for that. Maybe if the stakes were a little higher, but they weren't, and so she was going to just sort of laugh at how fun it kind of was trying to get the balls in the basket in this ridiculous costume while Dean pushed and steered her along.

Never in a million years would they have done anything like this at St. Brigid's!
