Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday, June 26, 202

There was an ice skating rink set up in the center of the park, which would be nice of a day like today if center ice hadn't been ominously filled with plastic ball pit balls. There were four laundry baskets spread out equally around the circle of balls, four scooters--red, yellow, blue, and green--next to the baskets, and most disturbingly of all...four hippo costumes.

Anakin, what have you wrought?

"We're playing Hungry Hungry Hippos," Anakin announced through the unnecessary megaphone. "And by we I mean you. Listen for your names!"

"You only need to wear the costume while you're retrieving the balls!" Anakin announced like that made it better. He pointed to the boring red, blue, green, and yellow t-shirts next to him. "Just wear the t-shirts for everything else."

Beaker was definitely ready to push you, Cara! Whether he could see where he would be pushing you was an entirely different problem!

Oh, it was a day for Cara being pushed it seemed. She looked incredibly, incredibly happy to be here, really.

"MEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep--" Oh no, it was difficult for Beaker to steer a person twice his size over ice. Who could have foreseen such a thing?"

Okay, he might be wearing a hippo costume but Dean would be damned if he wasn't going to win this thing.

If he had to wear this ridiculous thing it might as well be for something.

Did it help that we was paired with one of the most ridiculously competitive people on the island?

"The costume's dress really adds to the intimidation factor," Steve said with a snicker. "Okay. Let's do this!"

Dean flopped down in his pretty pretty hippo costume onto the scooter. "Let's do this. Push me McGarret. Push me hard."

Steve snickered as he grabbed Dean's ankles. "Focus on the goal!" he said. "Grab those balls."

Were there better ways to put that? Probably.

"Just drive, McGarrett!" Dean shouted as he put the laundry basket into action. "I know how to handle balls!"

Subtext? What subtext?

"I've heard that about you," Steve said with a grin, dragging Dean backward towards their team basket to dump out the first round of balls. "Again!"

"C'mon man!" Dean shouted back as he readied the basket. "Really shove it this time! Give me all you got!"

"That's what she said."

Steve, why are you like this?

He pushed Dean back towards the center of the ice.

Look, they have the sense of humor of a 12 year old. It's a natural thing for them to do.

"Yes!" Dean shouted as he snagged a bunch of balls. "Don't stop! Just like that!"

They were the most mature, grown-ass adults right now.

Steve burst out laughing as he dragged them back to the team basket. "The most intimidating hippo."

"Damn right I am!" Dean said after the final lunge and with what was definitely the majority of balls. Dean popped up off the scooter, nearly slipping, and pumped his arms in the air for victory.

"Yes!"

And then he spiked the hippo mask like a football.

"Hell yeah," Steve said. "High...however hell many fake fingers you have on that thing."

"Hippo high five," Dean said raising his glove up high.

Well. Lydia was certainly wearing a hippo costume and lying on a sled thing. "I'm ready!" she told Steph.

Was she? Was she really? Was anyone ready for the madness that came from Anakin Skywalker's mind?

"As much as anyone ever really is for those things," Steph said with a wry sort of sympathy. "Which is on average 'not very,' and that's fine because I would honestly be worried about all of us if we were."

She glanced at the ice rink, dubious, and reached down to take hold of the sled.

"Okay, basket ready, let's do this."

This was much better as a table game. Some things were not meant to be LARPed.

"Alright," said Rosa, shifting as she got situated on her scooter with her basket, much too seriously for a grown-ass woman in a blue-tutu'd hippo costume, "let's go."

It was kind of a shame that Blackstone wasn't out there on the ice with her, but it might be a better thing for everyone else involved.

Vi wasn't so much serious as resigned and trying to keep her footing. There were shenanigans where she'd go all out on, but this was not one of them.

That they'd do as well as they were going to do this round would definitely be down to Rosa.
