Library, 4/27

A surly teenage boy is behind the counter, attempting to hide his face in a back issue of Rolling Stone.

He is very much hoping today will be the quietest day in library history, but the library is open and full of books anyhow. A new handwritten sign on the library door reads, END OF SEMESTER -- ALL BOOKS DUE MAY 5. NO EXCEPTIONS.

"Got too enthusiastic in his female... being?" Cameron hoped that would be clear enough.

Angela looked horrified. "During class? Normally people want privacy for ... that."

"That?" Cameron blinked, caught on and quickly shook his head. "Not that that. Just... he felt the need to flaunt his assets. She. Her. Dude, this is confusing."

"Pronouns are a problem," Angela agreed, still looking vaguely horrified. "So, like, was there a reason, or did he just ... flaunt out of the blue?"

"It was more of a so you think I shouldn't move them around so let me push them in your face</>i sort of thing," Cameron grimaced. "I need bleach."

Angela rubbed his chin. "But, dude, you like girls," he pointed out. "I mean, what if it had been me? Well, regular me."

"Yeah, but... it's Marty. He's not supposed to be a girl," Cameron looked all flaily. "It'd be different if you'd..." He waved his hand around and it's possible the tips of his ears were turning pink. "You're a real girl!"

"Except today," Angela said wryly. "And, okay, I see your point."

"Plus I would, like, never do that, so the whole thing is kind of moot."

"Thank you," he relaxed a bit. "It's nothing permanent, right?"

"No," Angela said, looking extremely relieved by that fact. "At least, not if Marty's right and it's the same thing Nadia Santos used for prom. It lasts about 24 hours. No offense, but I don't want to be a guy forever."

"None taken," Cameron said maybe too quickly. "I think I prefer you being a girl too."

"Yeah, I'm not signing up for gender reassignment surgery anytime soon," Angela told him.

"That's a bit of a relief," Cameron said with a quick smile. "But you can't tell me it's all bad?"

Angela shrugged. "I guess not, but I haven't really been a guy long enough to have all that much of an opinion," he said. "I like being taller?"

"Tall's fun," Cameron grinned. "Easier to intimidate freshmen or other floorers."

Angela raised an eyebrow. "I actually could kick your ass now, Mitchell."

Then, assessing his height: "Well. I could try."

Snorting, Cameron crossed his arms and looked way too smug. "Really now? Want to actually try it?"

Angela's fists itched, he wanted to try it so much.

Bad idea, Chase, his mind warned him. Quit being macho. He's military and he's bigger than you and, really, do you see this ending well? You've been a guy three hours and you want to hit your friend for being the same idiot he always is?

Another part of his brain answered, Yes. Yes, I do. He forcibly held his hands together behind his back to keep that part of his brain in check.

"Not worth it," he sneered. "Besides, I don't want it to get around school that a girl beat you up."

Cameron raised an eyebrow. "Dude, Aeryn beats me up on a regular basis and Parker has already as well. I think I can handle it."

Angela's hands twitched behind his back.

"Tell you what," he finally said. "Meet you in the gym after classes and we spar? I win, you have to shut the fuck up about floors until graduation. You win, I -" he flailed. "I have to personally apologize to the entire second floor. And bake cupcakes."

Cameron bounced, grinning even broader. "You're on."

Angela was getting a bad feeling about this, but he was too proud to back down. "It's a deal."

"My mom's got some good recipees. Want me to give her a call?" Yeah, he was going to be an ass for a moment.

"What, to tell her you love her one last time?" Angela said. "Good idea."

Apparentrly testosterone is strong stuff.

Cameron rolled his eyes. "You're getting a hang of the macho part, dude."
