Library, 4/27

A surly teenage boy is behind the counter, attempting to hide his face in a back issue of Rolling Stone.

He is very much hoping today will be the quietest day in library history, but the library is open and full of books anyhow. A new handwritten sign on the library door reads, END OF SEMESTER -- ALL BOOKS DUE MAY 5. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Angela's hands twitched behind his back.

"Tell you what," he finally said. "Meet you in the gym after classes and we spar? I win, you have to shut the fuck up about floors until graduation. You win, I -" he flailed. "I have to personally apologize to the entire second floor. And bake cupcakes."

For a second, Angela looked appalled, then she shifted back to a tough expression. "I have no idea what's making me say this stuff," he said. "But it's kind of fun."
