Summer Shenanigans [All Day Wednesday]

Good morning, everyone! It's time for another summer of Anakin Skywalker Thinks This Teaches Team Building and But Mostly Amuses Himself!

Or "Shenanigans."

The bleachers for viewing were set up in the park, close to the pond and near the Belthazor Commemorative Divot. Food vendors, remembering how this worked, had arrived with hot dogs, popcorn, and rum for the squirrels. And coffee. Just...so much coffee. Huge flatscreens were set up facing the bleachers, which gave people a hint that today's event would not just stay inside the park, and the cameras were trained at...well, ankle height or the sky for now because squirrels and rum.

Anakin and his bullhorn were standing behind a folding table stacked high with brightly patterned shirts, and people who had been here before knew that just because the shirts were free, it never, ever meant you wanted to wear them.

"GOOD MORNING!" he boomed through the completely unnecessary bullhorn when enough people were gathered. "Welcome to another summer of team building activities!"

He might be waiting for a while if he was expecting cheers, just saying.

"Today, as has become tradition, we shall conduct a relay race around the island to acquaint you newcomers with where things are!" he said. "Please listen as your name is called and then come up for your team-building clothing."

AKA: ugly Hawaiian shirts.

"You'll be in three groups of six."

When your de facto boss said she's give you a raise just for going down to the park to see who was participating in the shenanigans, you really didn't ask too many questions. Especially not when it was a good chance for some potentially great entertainment, a good opportunity for some great photos, and a good chance to get Noctra out and about to experience more of the (safer) side of Fandom.

Of course, there was the issue of what he was going to do if his name wound up being actually called. He liked to think, "uh, hey, man, I kinda have a baby here?" would work as a good excuse, but with Skywalker? Hard to tell.

In the meantime, he and Noctra were having a very impassioned discussion about which team to root for. Clearly, they were leaning toward Flamingo, because they resembled chocobos mostm

As was tradition, the sleeves of Vi's shirt were not long for this world. And if she was flexing as she put her now sleeveless shirt on, well, certain people on the other teams needed to be properly intimidated.

"Meep meep mee!" Beaker said, giving her two felty thumbs up. He was wearing a matching shirt. Go team tacky skulls!

"Awww, this reminds me of the guitar I used to have on the wall at the Record Traders," Steph said fondly, holding up the shirt. "But I still wish I had sunglasses."

Eleanor, clearly, had no idea what was going on with this whole thing, all she knew was that she was apparently supposed to be here, and now she had....a shirt. With skulls. In sort of a male style.

Grandmère would not approve. Luma probably wouldn't, either.

But Eleanor maybe kind of loved it.

Connor had had no intention of getting roped into any of this... h had just come by the park on his lunch break. He had intended to head back to the museum to finish his shift not... do whatever all this was....

Of the available choices this shirt seemed the least objectionable. At least there was that.

Stark was still sighing very heavily as he changed into his glowy flamingo shirt. So heavily.

Don't mind Graham; he'll just be over here for a minute, trying to win the flamingos over to friendship because of how he was representing them right now with his shirt.

"Aw, yeah, this is great!" Raiden exclaimed when he saw his shirt and its magnificent neon flamingos. They had managed to get it in his size and everything!

Libby was here with her camera today, hoping to maybe get a few pictures for class while she was here, but she was mostly just taking selfies with her phone in her new shirt to send to Zo and start a whole new summer of making her jealous of these sweet clothes!

(She was going to end up giving them all to Zo anyway, but it was fun to tease her, especially with this one, oh man!)

Get Ready to Race!

LEG 1

The first two teammates (Cutter & Cara, Raiden & Steve M., and Steve R and Sam) will three-legged race from the edge of the park up alllllll of those stairs on Apocalypse Avenue and stop at Surf's Up, where they will get a bellyboard and a shark hat to pass along to the teammate waiting there. (And no, "I have one from last year" will not save them.) Then they can untie themselves, run up Sphinx Street, turn onto Loon Drive and stop at Chilly Boulder.

They must then order and consume a large chocolate milkshake as quickly as possible. Will you get a brain freeze? Oh yeah. After both of you have finished your milkshakes, and pass the boogie boards and the shark hats to your teammates (Libby & Connor, Stark & Vi, and Eleanor & Charlie)!

LEG 2

Our second teams (Libby & Connor, Stark & Vi, and Eleanor & Charlie), wearing shark hats and carrying boogie boards, run down Loon Drive and onto Unicorn and stop at the Trooper Station to do some burpees!

Like, 25 burpees.

Sorry.

Then they run all the way to the docks, jump into the water and paddle via bellyboard from the dock to the causeway parking lot. (Anakin has provided life vests and water wings because Safety First. They all look amazing.)

Drag yourself out of the water to tag your final pair of teammates!

LEG 3

The good news? The teams can now ditch the bellyboards and shark hats. The bad news? Your last two teammates (Steph & Gray, Clare & Graham, and Beaker & Guillermo) need to run from the causeway over to Fast Eddie's and put on bowling shoes. Then, each carrying a ten pound bowling ball, they have to run (without slipping and killing themselves or each other) down Black Swan Drive (with the steps) and back to the park where their teammates are waiting for them!

Surprise pie eating contest! Each team member must eat ahand pie (dietary needs have been addressed) using only their faces! First team to complete the challenge wins and so...

There is a hose for cleaning off faces after you're finished.
