The Library

Janet was slightly out of breath from running across town to get to the school and open the library on time. And to get coffee while on the way.

"And it's not like they think you're dating their granddaughter, or anything." Parker smirked a little. "They'll be polite, at least, if Rory was describing them accurately. Just non-plussed about the monk thing. And the hair. Expect a question about whether your parents are hippies."

Parker grinned wide. "An alternative culture inside our country, mostly around a generation or so ago. For free love and peace and hugging trees and wild music. Grandparently types really, really don't like them."

Anakin had a sudden image of his mother listening to wild music and hugging a tree.

He choked. "Well, that kind of describes Obi-Wan. Except for the wild music part. He doesn't listen to anything more interesting than Mon Cal opera."

He paused. "Do people on this planet normally charge for love?"

Snickering, Parker said, "No, they meant free as in unchained by marriages or legal papers or anything. Having sex with whoever, whenever." She cocked her head. "Of course, if you say they're not hippies, her grandparents will probably ask how your family feels about you becoming a monk, and aren't you disappointing them by not getting a real job?"

Her smile widened. "Or maybe I'm just messing with you."

"So I shouldn't tell them about my big folk music career as a back-up plan if the Jedi thing doesn't turn out?" Anakin gave her a wicked smile, then grew more serious. "No--becoming a, um, monk--she was very proud of me."

He stared at the floor, trying to come up with a way to shift the conversation.

"At least with folk music, you'd have a thriving contingent of fans to defend you," Parker pointed out with a chuckle, then sobered. "That's good, though. That your mom's okay with it." She paused. "Parents opinion's are the ones that matter the most, I think."

She's looking for a way to get away from this conversation too. "So. Be sure and tell me all about Paris when you get back. I can't believe she's as uptight as Rory paints her."

"I don't think anyone can be as uptight as Paris sounds," Anakin said, laughing.

He couldn't hide the relief in his eyes for the shift in topic.

"I'll tell you all about it when I get back," he promised. He waved his hand and the DVD players floated into the air. "I'll get these back to you in a couple of hours, okay?"

"I'll be here. And I owe you big for this." Parker spun on her chair and grinned, watching the DVD players float away. "Have fun." She started looking for DVD's with exotic locales to project, humming happily.
