There was a definite smell of grease in the air along the beach that should worry anyone who'd every experienced one of Anakin's Wednesdays before, and that was only if they didn't notice the enormous, greased-up pole resting between two wooden scaffolds about ten feet above the water.

Or the greased-up pigs in a pen.

Or the greased-up flag pole.

Anakin liked a theme, that's what we're saying here.

"Today is all about adaptation!" Anakin yelled into the bullhorn when everyone had arrived. "Your teams have to attempt--individually--get get across the pole in the water and then up the flag pole. Your times, should anyone complete these tasks--will be added together, along with your efforts in the pairs greased pig collecting competition. Fastest team wins."

Who took Anakin to a county fair. Really.

"Listen for your names! There will be five teams of six and you may not use any special powers to assist yourself or your teammates. This is all physical prowess and mental stamina."

You know what, Steph was pretty much useless at this point, so... she'd do her best, but sorry, Stark.

They could be useless together!

"Why," Stark asked plaintively, staring down a pig.

They could be team #relatable that way.

"Because someone needed more hugs growing up?" Steph guessed.

Not that she wasn't planning how to work something like this into a game now. All checks at disadvantage due to grease...

"Perhaps he should be hugged now," Stark said thoughtfully. "While we're all covered in grease."

Or maybe other people should be hugged instead. Not pigs though.

"Only if someone else volunteers," Steph replied, "because I call not it."

She eyed the pig dubiously. "God, why do I keep signing up for this?"

"I'll hug him," Stark said brightly, glancing down at his shirt which was coated in grease and soaked through. "He deserves it."

"Maybe... if one of us can get the pig to run to the other?"

Or maybe they could just sit this one out.

Was either of them focused enough to try that without getting hurt, though? Probably not, no matter what Steph might say to the contrary.

"It'll probably run us over if we do, though," she said dubiously.

Stark was focused, when he wasn't darting glances elsewhere.

"We're bigger than it is."

Stark, no.

Steph was plenty focused! Not on this though.

"I have a festival to plan and I don't think I can do that if I end up in traction." She was eyeing the pig like she wasn't convinced of the size difference. "Or play for it."

See? Totally focused.

"Play what?" Stark asked. "And we'd take good care of you at the clinic. If you got hurt."

All the staff was here and two of the firefighters! Not that Stark had noticed one of them.

Who on this team was noticing anyone else present? Nobody, that was who.

"My drums, bro," Steph replied, still eyeing the pig with great concern. "I kind of need all my limbs for that."

She didn't have enough time to practice any kind of alternate configuration between now and then, okay?

"So there's music," Stark said. "What else? I've never been."

Let's focus on the important things here, friends, like the pig that had decided to turn its attention to these two hopeless people.

"Well, there's gonna be a parade," Steph added, watching the pig but somehow still not processing that it was paying attention to them now, "and a picnic sort of thing in the park with food and stuff?"

She could have been more coherent but she was soaked and covered in grease and easily distracted here.

The pig was going to charge them, wasn't it? And probably knock at least one of them (Stark, it would absolutely be Stark that was just how things went) down.

"Oh. Food is always good."

Maybe there would be bacon. Retaliatory bacon.

Only bacon-wrapped all the things, so yes.

"And no corporations slapping a rainbow on their logo for the month just to get on our good side," Steph added somewhat vehemently, because distracted or not she was always going to have Feelings about that.

Stark, who had no idea about rainbow capitalism, gave her a curious look.

"I'm not sure what you mean?"

He didn't leave the island much. He hadn't, except to go home, since last fall.

"Lucky you," Steph replied. "Trust me, you won't be missing anything that way."

He was missing something but clearly not something he needed to know about right now.

No, he was missing two things. The second thing was the pig headed towards him.

"Alright," he said agreeably.

"No problem, dude --"

Steph's attention snapped back from wherever it had been focused.

"Dude, incoming!"

"Hmm?" Stark looked back over at Steph and not, alas, at the pig.

Too late. Ever see an alien bowled over by a greased pig before, Steph?

Scott was willing to try, but given his poor performance up to this point, he wasn't especially...optimistic.

Also, this was kind of gross. He needed a shower in the worst way.

Jo was not very good at running at all and she was kind of staring in dismay at the idea of having to chase a pig, “um…”

How was it going to work? Ha. A greased pig was nothing compared to a slimy k'lor'slug. It bit less, too.

Lana started by throwing dirt at the pig. Now it wasn't greasy anymore.
