Did anyone want to be awake for this after the kraken drill?

No.

Was that going to stop Anakin? Of course not!

The bleachers were down on the beach today, along with eight large rafts floating semi-precariously out in the water. Was this tempting a real kraken to arrive?

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe.

"Today it's really, ridiculously hot," Anakin yelled through the megaphone. "So I'm letting you get wet! You're welcome!"

Wait to hear what you're doing first before expressing your gratitude.

"You will be conducting a water balloon fight out there on the water. You will be given hand-held balloon launchers, and a bucket full of water balloons." Which may or may not contain water. "You will have teams of eight. Fastest team to pass a water balloon all the way down the line wins. You get a time penalty at the end for each balloon that breaks along the way. Listen for your names!''

That's what Steph would say, wouldn't she. It wasn't like she was competitive or anything.

"Uh, hey," Vi replied as she very heroically managed not to trip over her own feet as she finished kicking off her trousers.

Please, like she was actually going to draw attention to Vi's lack of composure by saying anything about it. Besides, she hadn't intentionally done this to throw Vi's game off! She'd still take the advantage though.

"I seriously can't decide who has the worst shirts this week," Steph said, "but I stand by my decision that I'm still sticking to the theme."

And boy, was Vi ready to be taken advantage of.

"We're allowed to pick that option?" She asked as she pulled her own shirt off over her head, breaking her line of sight and re-engaging her brain for a few precious seconds.

Well, the narrative wasn't in denial at least. And for the record, Steph wasn't any more composed than Vi was, not any more.

"Anakin hasn't yelled at me for it yet, anyway?"

Wow, the sand was fascinating right now, huh?

"I'm really not feeling those shirts either," Vi decided, since they were pretty bad.

The sand was amazing. Vi just loved sand.

"Going to come rescue me if I fall in?" Steph asked. She was still looking at the sand instead of smirking at Vi, so the teasing might not be as effective as usual.

"Oh, of course," Vi replied, also off her teasing game and maybe a bit too sincere. So enjoy that mental image Steph.

Unfortunately, yes, she was enjoying it.

"Good to know," Steph said. "I'm not trying to fall in or anything, but if I do..."

They had each other's backs. She wasn't actually worried about that.

"I'm a strong swimmer," Vi said. "So you and your noodle arms are safe."

When in doubt, go for the arms.

"Did you really --" Steph laughed and then lunged forward to make a grab at Vi's arm.

Look, she'd said she was going to bite her the next time the phrase 'noodle arms' came up.

Letting Steph grab her arm, Vi laughed and braced herself as best she could on the sand. "Yeah, I did."

"The worst. You. That's you," said Steph, who really ought to give up on thinking that was anything but an endearment, and brought Vi's arm up so she could try and playfully bite her hand.

"Are you actually?" Well, that was certainly teaching Vi her lesson. Wait, no it wasn't. "What are you? Twelve?"

Depended on what the lesson actually was. It definitely wasn't that Vi should stop giving Steph shit about her arms, though.

"Yup," Steph said cheerfully. "Didn't I say I would, next time you said it?"

As if Vi would ever let herself be deterred by a little biting.

"I recall something of the sort," she said. "I'll make a note not to bring up your noodle arms again."

"Ugh, you --" Any actual annoyance in Steph's glare was completely negated by how hard she was laughing. She did let go of Vi's arm, though. "You said that last time."

Sure, she could just admit that she liked it when Vi called her that, but what sense would that make?

None at all.

Vi made a face like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. "I must have forgot."

"Wow, that's convenient," Steph retorted, simultaneously relieved that they'd reverted to their usual sarcastic banter and kind of sorry about it. "You've probably already forgotten again, too. Conveniently."

Don't worry, as soon as Vi got enough distance to really look at Steph again, she'd be completely useless for the rest of the day.

"It's amazing how you've picked up on my memory problems like that. Mind like a sieve."

Well, that went both ways, much as Steph didn't want to admit it. She was going to end up falling off her raft at the end, watch.

"Yeah," she said, shaking her head, "like all our game nights where you have to learn the rules all over again every time? Or the drum lessons? I spend so much time with you, it's hard not to notice."

At least then Vi could follow through on that promise to save her?

"Well, yeah, but that stuff's important." Unlike not bringing up her noodly limbs.

And then they'd both be extra useless later!

"You have priorities. I guess that's fair." Was Steph grinning about Vi thinking the stuff they did together was important? Maybe.
