Good morning, everyone! It's time for another summer of Anakin Skywalker Thinks This Teaches Team Building and Also Amuses Himself (Mostly the Second Thing) but "Shenanigans" Is Easier!

The bleachers for viewing were set up in the park backed up to the pond and near the Belthazor Commemorative Divot. Food vendors, remembering how this worked, had arrived with hot dog, popcorn, and rum for the squirrels. And coffee. Just...so much coffee. Huge flatscreens were set up facing the bleachers, which gave people a hint that today's event would not just stay inside the park, and the cameras were trained at...well, ankle height or the sky for now because squirrels and rum.

Anakin and his bullhorn were standing behind a folding table stacked high with brightly patterned shirts and people who had been here before knew that just because the shirts were free, it never, ever meant you wanted to wear them.

"GOOD MORNING!" he boomed through the bullhorn when enough people were gathered. "Welcome to another summer of team building activities!"

He might be waiting for a while if he was expecting cheers, just saying.

"Today, as has become tradition, we shall conduct a relay race around the island to acquaint you newcomers with where things are!" he said. "Please listen as your name is called and then come up for your festive t-shirts. We shall have four teams of eight."

Get Ready to Race!

LEG 1

The first two teammates (Tony & Irene, Watts & Jaskier, Steve M. & Sakaki, and Goose & Isabela) will three-legged race from the edge of the park up alllllll of those stairs on Apocalypse Avenue and stop at Surf's Up, where they will get a bellyboard and a shark hat to pass along to the teammate waiting there. Then they get shark hats to wear for themselves, because everyone looks better in these hats.

(What, not like it's gonna clash with the shirts.)

"All right, team!" he said, clapping his hands together once. "This'll be great. Have you three-legged raced before?"

Carrying the bellyboard and wearing the shark hat, the third team member (Liz, Lana, Libby, Alara) runs up Sphinx Street, turns onto Loon Drive and stops at Chilly Boulder.

They must then order and consume a large chocolate milkshake as quickly as possible. Will you get a brain freeze? Oh yeah.

Oh, wow, okay, Libby could do this! Ice cream was a very, very rare treat in her household, but in jeans, she was a good runner, and she was determined to try her best, not for herself, but for her team.

Would the brain freeze and upset stomach be worth it? Only time would tell, but she was definitely coming out of that with regrets and being thankful she'd read up on how to treat thus sort of thing recently!

The running was easy. If Lana used the Force, it had the extra benefit of moving too quickly for anybody to actually see the shark hat.

The milkshake did slow her down a little, but she felt she made a decent showing.

Liz was extremely sleep deprived and she was blaming that for how slow she was as she tried to complete the run to Chilly Boulder.

To try and make up for how long it took her, Liz drank her milkshake extremely fast and the brain freeze stopped her from going any further for a few moments while she tried to settle.

At least the milkshake wasn't vanilla so she didn't run the risk of bursting into tears while she was doing it either.

Alara was feeling rather tired from a lack of sleep so she was trying to not break the bellyboard when she carried it and was a bit slower than she normally was.

She was able to drink the milkshake pretty quickly though and the brain freeze wasn't too bad but she still wasn't as quick as she would have liked to be.

LEG 3

Pass the bellyboard to one team member and the shark hat to another (Ulysses & Hannibal, Vi & Jon, Steph & Clare, and Beaker & Will.)! They will run down Loon Drive and onto Unicorn, stopping at the Trooper Station to do some burpees!

Like, 25 burpees.

Sorry.

Then they run all the way to the docks! Can a Muppet Burpee? Guess we're gonna find out.

The shark hat was bad enough, but then Hannibal had to stop and look up on his phone what exactly a "burpee" was (other than a plant seller), so he wasn't exactly doing this quickly.

The undignified hat, Jon could deal with. The physical exertion...yeah, even just the running wasn't going well.

He collapsed at the trooper station, breathing heavily.

Chittering came from behind him. He looked around and frowned at the squirrel. "Is that allowed?"

More chittering.

Jon shrugged. It was better than nothing, and if anybody took offence, they could deal with it then. "In that case, thank you."

Ever seen a squirrel do burpees? Because that was what was happening now.

Yeah, the fact that Steph, indoor nerd kid extraordinaire, was one of the people who got tagged to do this leg of the race was hilarious. The fact that she was competing against Vi, probably the single actually qualified person in this leg of the race, was extra hilarious.

Except what was the most hilarious was that Steph, absolutely struggling through 25 burpees (what the hell?) in a terrifying taco cat Hawaiian shirt and a hat that looked like a shark eating her head (yes, it was on over her beanie, what kind of question was that?) somehow managed to be one of the first people to the docks.

How? Sheer competitive drive and a need to channel a desire for physical exertion into something, probably. Also she was maybe fueled just a bit by spite after that whole thing where Vi said she had noodle arms.

And some sheer luck, to be real. It was like she and her nonexistent bonus to athletics checks had managed to roll a natural 20, basically.

LEG 4

Are you wearing a shark hat and paddling via bellyboard from the dock to the causeway parking lot?

Of course you are! At least if you're Guillermo, Wanda, Buck or Stark!

Anakin has also given you life vests and shark-themed water wings, so. Safety first.

It was just a bit too cold for this, in Wanda's opinion, but the cold water did perk her up some! At least enough to come in first in her haste to get the hell out of the water.

The water was cold enough that Stark at least felt a bit more awake. Cold and awake. Cold and annoyed and awake and wearing some ridiculous shark accessories. All of those were good motivators and he paddled his way to the parking lot faster than he might normally have done. Just not as fast as Wanda did.

Guillermo was extremely uncoordinated and it took him a lot of effort to paddle in the right direction and he fell off a couple of times but he did eventually complete the leg, even if he was rather soaked now from doing so.

It did wake him up a bit though so there was that.

LEG 5

The good news? The teams can now ditch the bellyboards and shark hats. The bad news? Your last two teammates (Tahani & Graham, Summer & Rey, Miguel & Tisarwat, and Jo & Jaina) need to run from the causeway over to Fast Eddie's and put on bowling shoes. Then, each carrying a ten pound bowling ball, they have to run (without slipping and killing themselves or each other) down Black Swan Drive (with the steps) and back to the park where their teammates are waiting for them!

Will this go better than last year? Honestly, doubtful.

You don't need to keep the bowling balls, but two of you are still in bowling shoes and two of you are in shark hats. So everyone looks amazing.
