BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

It was't so much that Alexis wanted to go back to school, it was just that her options to bounce around a bit had dried up for the moment, and she should probably at least check this place out? She hadn't gotten to see much of it aside from the volcano and all, and very little of the area outside, so why not hang out for a while?

She'd amassed a lot of bags around her: on the floor, the seats next to her. A throne of luggage, of sorts. She was already a little bored waiting, wondering who else would show up, and how much glitter had gone into the giant "FANDOM HIGH" sign that was hanging.

...and how that glitter had already gotten on her designer luggage, which she was now trying to pick off with an, "Ew."

Elli had kissed her parents and her grandmother goodbye and left her home with a smile and a wave that had belied how nervous she really was. She'd been to the city before but never alone and the whole rigmarole of getting from the city onto a plane—a plane, why hardly anyone back home had ever done such a thing!—and reaching Baltimore… why, the journey alone was enough to make anyone nervous!

Rolling her one suitcase (which was clean and plain, not new but in good condition) into the waiting area for the shuttle, Elli swallowed hard against the surge of butterflies in her stomach.

Finding a seat that didn't look like it was taken, she fished out a ginger candy to suck on in the hopes it would calm her stomach, as she took her first look around at the people who would be her classmates.

I hope they like me, she thought, hands tight on her suitcase's handle. I hope this wasn't a mistake.

Because she'd read the pamphlets about this school. It was supposed to be different with students from all sorts of places and circumstances. Everyone was likely to be more worldly than she was.

After all, she was just a very small town country girl…

But wasn't a sign supposed to be obvious?

"Oh!" Elli said, startled, before giving the other girl a somewhat tentative smile. "Yes, that's right. You too?"

"It's Elli," she said, after an askance look at the whole 'hopefully' bit. "And what's yours?"

The hallway Julius found himself was long. Very long. It seemed almost like a maintenance tunnel at times, with exposed pipe and brickwork and the occasional snarl of wires. He walked for a good ten, fifteen minutes and saw nobody. No signs of life. And not a single door or turn. His fears of coming to a juncture and needing to take the right path faded as he just kept walking.

Still, the longer he walked, the better he felt. This had to be be a secret entrance into the DFZ proper. Probably going under the airport and tarmac and into the city? Never mind he didn't remember ever actually going down. He'd put his trust in his brother Bob and he'd come out better for it and--there! Bright light! He'd finally reached the end!

Julius trotted out, certain he was going to come out in the middle of the most magical city on Earth to find himself...still in the airport?

What the hell?

"Okay, but where the hell am I?"

There wasn't even the slightest flicker of recognition. Small towns didn't get all the news unfortunately.

Elli laughed, a bit embarrassed.

"The brochures indicate that the school is larger than my hometown."

Mineral Town was tiny.

"Baltimore's airport?" Elli suggested, though not until after she'd given him a bit of a look for such language. Honestly, boys... "Waiting for the shuttle over to Fandom Island?"

She paused.

"Did... did you not mean to be here?" Maybe he'd gotten lost...

Maybe she shouldn't have mentioned it but... no going back now.

Elli's blush deepened. "Yes," she admitted. "There's only about thirty people in my town."

And that was being generous.

"Baltimore?!" Julius said, gaping at Alexis. Sorry, Alexis, you were beautiful, but all of his brain was wholly taken up with the giant WTF bomb going off in his frontal lobe.

Even as a dragon he couldn't have walked from the Detroit Free Zone and Baltimore in fifteen minutes.

"Like Baltimore, Maryland?!"

Couldn't be. Was there maybe a neighborhood or a suburb of the DFZ called Baltimore, maybe?

Normally, Julius would have felt that look and been abashed. He didn't really use that kind of language much himself, honest. But - look, he'd had a really hard twelve hours, culminating in being in a completely different section of the country than he'd expected to be.

"Fandom Island?" he repeated blankly.

"It's where Fandom High School is located?" she said, a bit concerned. "It's just across the causeway from here..."

How?

A successful festival was if half the town showed up!

"Well, I suppose it's because we're a farming community...?"

"I, uhhh...I guess so?" he said, twisting to look around behind him for the hallway he'd come through. "I just literally just in the DFZ..."

And now he was in Baltimore, with only the clothes he'd been wearing since yesterday, ninety-eight dollars in his account, a phone, and a whole mountain of confusion.

Goddammit, Bob!

All the words she was saying were in English, but he was parsing exactly none of them. "I don't - Fandom High? Causeway? I...I'm..."

He was exhausted, confused, and still in no little pain from his mother's spell.

"I think I need to sit down," he declared. And did. Rather abruptly.

But into a chair, so that was...something?

Something very...peculiar was going on here, but Freya would be lying if she said it hadn't captured her curiosity. Things were quite normal at first; she'd just gotten off the cable car in the Business District, intent to speak with someone about some upgrades on her lance, only to be handed an odd ticket by the attendant that read Fandom High and little else. Perhaps a new production in the Theater District, some sort of guerrilla marketing? She'd heard there was a new troupe setting up shop, perhaps she'd check it out...

But when she stepped out of the station, she found herself not on the streets of Lindblum at all but, instead...in another station? And those certainly didn't look anything like cable cars! Or mist ships, for that matter! How curious indeed! And even though she was getting quite a few strange looks, she found an attendant to help point the way to a section of the station where a large, incredibly sparkly banner matched the words on the ticket in her paw.

She looked at the ticket, back to the banner, and then back to the ticket.

"Well," she murmured, mostly to herself, her tail twitching slightly behind her, "I suppose this is the place."

And then she looked up, past her long snout, the one green eye that wasn't hidden by the careless shag of her white hair taking in the little lobby and wondering what this might be all about, with a very particular thrill of excitement racing through her.

After all, she'd searched the continents high and low, but perhaps this odd occurrence might be the thing to finally lead her to her lost Sir Fratley!

[[ wiiiith an SP warning because work, but I was going to be twitchy until I pinged her in officially! ]]
