BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge- Saturday morning

It was't so much that Alexis wanted to go back to school, it was just that her options to bounce around a bit had dried up for the moment, and she should probably at least check this place out? She hadn't gotten to see much of it aside from the volcano and all, and very little of the area outside, so why not hang out for a while?

She'd amassed a lot of bags around her: on the floor, the seats next to her. A throne of luggage, of sorts. She was already a little bored waiting, wondering who else would show up, and how much glitter had gone into the giant "FANDOM HIGH" sign that was hanging.

...and how that glitter had already gotten on her designer luggage, which she was now trying to pick off with an, "Ew."

Elli had kissed her parents and her grandmother goodbye and left her home with a smile and a wave that had belied how nervous she really was. She'd been to the city before but never alone and the whole rigmarole of getting from the city onto a plane—a plane, why hardly anyone back home had ever done such a thing!—and reaching Baltimore… why, the journey alone was enough to make anyone nervous!

Rolling her one suitcase (which was clean and plain, not new but in good condition) into the waiting area for the shuttle, Elli swallowed hard against the surge of butterflies in her stomach.

Finding a seat that didn't look like it was taken, she fished out a ginger candy to suck on in the hopes it would calm her stomach, as she took her first look around at the people who would be her classmates.

I hope they like me, she thought, hands tight on her suitcase's handle. I hope this wasn't a mistake.

Because she'd read the pamphlets about this school. It was supposed to be different with students from all sorts of places and circumstances. Everyone was likely to be more worldly than she was.

After all, she was just a very small town country girl…

Maybe this girl looked worried to her. Or maybe Alexis was just bored of waiting, because she let Elli sit down and settle in before asking, "You're going to Fandom High, right?"

Yes, there was a sign, but it was also a little too obvious of a sign, you know?

But wasn't a sign supposed to be obvious?

"Oh!" Elli said, startled, before giving the other girl a somewhat tentative smile. "Yes, that's right. You too?"

"Yeah. Well, hopefully." They'd see if this bus made it!

That was also sort of a weird statement to just let hang there, but Alexis did just that.

"What's your name?"

"It's Elli," she said, after an askance look at the whole 'hopefully' bit. "And what's yours?"

"Alexis," she said with a smile, kind of wondering if Elli might recognize her at all. "I kind of figured I'd give this small town school thing a try."

She did not. Not really.

There wasn't even the slightest flicker of recognition. Small towns didn't get all the news unfortunately.

Elli laughed, a bit embarrassed.

"The brochures indicate that the school is larger than my hometown."

Mineral Town was tiny.

Alexis blinked, because like, she'd seen Fandom, albeit briefly, to shower and leave for several months.

"Really?"

Maybe she shouldn't have mentioned it but... no going back now.

Elli's blush deepened. "Yes," she admitted. "There's only about thirty people in my town."

And that was being generous.

"How?" Alexis asked immediately.

That was like a casual get together worth of people!

How?

A successful festival was if half the town showed up!

"Well, I suppose it's because we're a farming community...?"

"That sounds... really interesting."

It didn't, but at least she didn't say ew. Besides, she was almost definitely going to end up on a farm at some point for some reason herself someday.

"It really isn't that interesting," Elli demurred, though she loved her home and the quiet, peaceful days. "Where are you from?"

"New York. But you can say I'm pretty much from all over," she said with a smile.

She was not. She just traveled a bunch.

"I've only ever heard stories of New York," she admitted. "Getting here was the first time I'd ever been on a plane!"

And it had been equal parts nerve-wracking and thrilling.

"Does your family travel a lot?" Elli asked. "Just, if you're from all over...?"

"Well, yeah," she said, and gave her hand a kind of enthusiastic vague wave. "But I kind of do my own things these days. Go my own way."

Alexis was fifteen.

"Already?!" Elli asked, startled. "You must be very brave!"

Alexis preened.

"There's just such a big world out there. I can't imagine just staying in one place."

Also she didn't get much attention in one place.

"So you'll just stay here until you get bored?" she wondered. "That seems like a rather marvelous sort of way to live, though I couldn't possibly do it myself..."

For one, Elli did not have the money that had to take.

"Sure you could. I mean, it helps to find a boyfriend with a summer house or two, but there's plenty of ways to get away," Alexis told her.

"I wouldn't even know where to begin," Elli admitted, bemused at how very different Alexis was from... anyone she knew.

Popuri would love her.

"That's okay. I could totally teach you," Alexis offered, because she was giving that way.

...Which was probably a bad idea.

"You could?" Elli asked. "I'd like that, if you really didn't mind!"

Elli, no.

This was going to end in tears at some point.

"Why not? I've got some time coming up."

Did you want to get arrested in Vegas, Elli? Because this is how you get arrested in Vegas.

She... she just wouldn't tell her family about just how broadened her horizons would get!

Despite herself, Elli laughed. "Well, if you get too busy, I'll understand."

If she had any idea this could involve being arrested she'd be a lot less down for this.
