"Good day, everyone," Anakin said, sweeping into class. "Apparently, the new and exciting way to find dates is through online apps, and while you're all far too young to sign up for such things--"

He hoped. He wasn't going to Google search "hooking up with teenagers" and go to jail, thanks.

"--it's never too early to work on," sigh, "--your selfies and the way you present yourselves. Especially in text-based situations, DO NOT SEND WEIRD PICTURES TO STRANGERS. Or emojis of eggplants, apparently."

He sighed again. This planet was so weird.

"So.Think of what you would do with a fake dating account and what you would want people to know about you, then write it up."

This was such a bad idea, Anakin.

Ulysses put his hand up. Though slowly.

"How are we, uh, defining 'weird pictures'?"

Asking for a friend.

"...why?" Anakin asked cautiously.

"... Because I'm curious?"

Sure.

"Sure," Anakin said. "Generally not sending photos of genitalia or fruits and vegetables pretending to be genitalia. To start."

Or practice taking selfies, or both!

Or stare in horror at your teacher.

Sidon had absolutely no interest in pursuing any sort of online dating to find a mate, as he was quite satisfied with the one he currently had (even if she was out in space adventuring and what have you). But still, it was an assignement and Sidon did enjoy talking about himself, so he tackled his potential profile with all the gusto and aplomb and...

"...oh," said Sidon, blinking a little as the particular clatter of clawed fingers on a keyboard suddenly stopped, "goodness. It appears I have reached some sort of word limit?"

Ahhhh, word limits! Truly as challenging a foe to Sidon as lightning or the desert sun!

"I can't date anyone," Nell said. Not that she would anyway. "M'already married!"

Even if she couldn't get back to him. And wasn't entirely sure she wanted to. But, you know, duty.

"Definitely leave that part off," Anakin advised, eyes sparkling.

"Womenfolk in God's Cloud of Glory don't date," she pointed out. "Even them'uns as ain't married." Her eyes might have been sparkling a little too.

Here she was standing up to a man and he wasn't yelling at her or trying to put her in her place or nothing,. but maybe teasing her a little.

"That sounds terribly dull," said the guy from an order that was supposed to never date.

"All the other wives and the kids keep you hoppin'," she said. "Never a dull moment. Or so they say."

He is not answering questions at this time.

Nina was, like, just sort of making it her mission today to track down all her people.

Hi, Bus Dean, you were one of her people.

"I'm, like, a little frightened and confused," she admitted, having listened to that lecture in morbid fascination.

Of course she knew what dating apps were but it was worrisome to have Bus Dean talk about them.

"How so?" Anakin asked, eyes sparkling slightly.

Nina eyed him.

As her teacher, there were places she wasn't going to take this conversation.

But there were still fun ways to go.

"I mean, like, weird is awfully broad as a topic," she said cheerfully. "I feel like, if I want to, I absolutely should be allowed to send, oh, say, pictures someone took of Barbie dolls dressed up in home-made, hand-made dresses out of fur cut off their own dogs??????????????????"

Because that was pretty weird, Bus Dean.

Anakin blinked. "And you think a picture like this would attract a partner?"

... No. Not even a little.

But that idea had her giggling.

"I mean, like, it is important to see if your tastes in social media are similar," she said earnestly.

"I think it would definitely speed up the process in finding someone who would like the real you," Anakin teased.

"Oh, please," she said, laughing. "No one would like the real me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not on the internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

And if she lived in paranoia about her friends and her brother regarding the same thing well, like, that was her business.

"Whyever not?" Anakin said. "You're just fine the way you are."

"Just fine." The compliment all adolescent girls craved.

You know, though, she'd take 'just fine' from Bus Dean. It was okay.

It wasn't a wonderful compliment but, like, he'd acted as her dad for Parents Weekend last year and she could totally believe a dad would say that to his kid.

"The internet," Nina said, "is always looking for the next big thing so, like, to stay popular and relevant you have to keep changing with the times and get ahead of the curve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Actually, the more she thought about it, the more 'just fine' made her feel warm and... safe.

He'd totally said it to his own children. He was bad with emotions.

"Do you want a partner who would view you as someone to get ahead of the curve with?" Anakin asked, smiling.

She hesitated a moment.

Owen was sweet and thought she was pretty and made her laugh, but...

"I mean, like, I want someone who can keep up with me??????????????? But who can do their own thing without me too???????????????? Like, I'm not always around.......... but, like, I also want someone who likes me and thinks I'm pretty and who makes me laugh??????????????????????"

Anakin's smile turned a little sweeter. "That's exactly what you should want."

"You don't, like, think it's too much to ask for????????????????????"

She'd wondered, was all.

"It's not," Anakin said firmly. "If that's truly what you want, then you should have it. If you truly wanted someone who appreciates the finer details of dolls dressed in dog fur, that...will take slightly more time."

She giggled.

"Do you, like, want to see the picture??????????????" Nina offered. "Because it's pretty great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, like, I wouldn't say I want anyone to appreciate the finer details so much as go oh god, why?????????? at it with me............."

"I'm pretty sure looking at the picture will haunt me for weeks," Anakin said, "so I'll pass, thank you."

Sorry for the lateness, folks, we're still trying to get into a new routine here with eeeeeeeeveryone underfoot.
