Anakin had learned from leaving just a note for the students. Today, he waited until everyone was seated before his voice boomed ominously through the classroom. "Under your desk, one of you will find an X. The rest of you have the goal of discovering who that person is and either protecting them or turning them over to authorities when they arrive in 30 minutes."

There was a long pause. "Student X, you know what you did."

Nothing, but that was part of the point.

Lana might not be about to play by the rules, but she still valued knowing as much as she could about what was going on.

She looked under every desk to see where the X was.

Well, that made a bit of difference; it was, after all, her duty to protect Eleanor.

"We're not actually allowed to just leave and go get ice cream, are we?" Nell asked Lana.

Well, unless it was the pirate class. The teacher would probably give them extra credit for leaving.

Lana thought about it. "Generally, leaving class is considered bad. But the instructions didn't explicitly forbid it."

Lana nodded agreement. "I don't feel I should leave, and I'm curious what this is all about, but I'm not about to get anybody in trouble, either."

"Very," Lana agreed. "I'd never have had anything like this back home. But then, the instructor's people and mine are long enemies." If they were all like Anakin, she...actually, she had no idea why. He was as capricious as any Sith.
